Its Stroke Awareness Month.

Stroke can be devastating, and can happen to anyone, of any age, at any time. The faster you call 999 and get treatment, the better the chances of survival and recovery, so it's vital to know how to spot the signs of a stroke, which you can see here: https://www.stroke.org.uk/stroke/symptoms

Stroke Association is asking everyone to ‘Make May Purple’, so they can fund research and support more people affected by stroke. You can organise a ‘purple event’, or join their ‘31 Minutes in May’ campaign and pledge to exercise for 31 minutes a day. Find more fundraising ideas, resources and stroke information on their website: https://www.stroke.org.uk/stroke-awareness-month

Hospice UK work with organisations, decision makers and the public to make things better for people who are dying or grieving. In the UK, we don’t have the right language to talk about death, so not everyone gets the right support for them as they approach the end of life. This year's theme is 'Let’s talk about Death and Dying', and communities are encouraged to get talking in whatever way, shape or form works for them.

You can join the ‘Dying Matters’ community, share your story, find resources and learn about your compassionate superpowers on Hospice UK’s website:

Hospice UK’s Dying Matters campaign is working with you to create an open culture in which we’re comfortable talking about death, dying and grief.

Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week is dedicated to talking about mental health problems before, during and after pregnancy. A survey by the organisers discovered that, overwhelmingly, women do not feel listened to about their mental health, so this week is designed to highlight the issues, increase access to information and support, and change attitudes.

May is Bladder Cancer Awareness Month.

Bladder cancer is one of the more common cancers, yet its symptoms are often overlooked. The most common early sign is blood in the urine (often painless), but other symptoms can include frequent or urgent urination, pain or burning when urinating, and lower abdominal or back discomfort.

Knowing the signs matters. When detected early, bladder cancer is often more treatable, so it’s important to speak to a GP if you notice persistent urinary symptoms.

Useful NHS information:

Raising awareness can help more people get diagnosed sooner and improve outcomes.

Help Us Reduce Missed GP Appointments

We understand that life can be busy and unpredictable, and sometimes making it to a GP appointment isn’t always possible.

However, missed appointments do have an impact. Each unused slot is time that could have been offered to another patient waiting for care, and it adds pressure to already stretched GP services.

If you’re unable to attend, letting your surgery know as soon as you can makes a real difference. It allows someone else to be seen sooner and helps keep services running smoothly for everyone.

A small action, like cancelling or rescheduling, can go a long way in supporting your local healthcare team and your community.

Thank you for helping us provide the best care possible.
