International Women’s Day – we asked some of the team what IWD meant to them.
Sarah - Transport Shift Manager: This International Women’s Day, the theme ‘Give To Gain’ resonates deeply with me. As a woman leading in the transport industry, and as a single mum, I know the power of resilience, support, and challenging expectations.
Over the past 2 years, I’ve pushed myself both professionally and personally, supporting a welcome influx of talented women into our transport team, mentoring and encouraging them to thrive, completing a 200-mile charity bike ride for Molly Ollys, and even buying my first motorbike despite never having ridden before. I believe that when we give, whether it’s opportunity, confidence, or advocacy, we gain stronger teams, greater resilience, and a culture where women and girls can truly succeed.
Ayesha - QA Operative: International Women’s Day is a moment for me to reflect on my own journey and the strength it has taken to get here. The ‘Give To Gain’ theme feels especially meaningful to me, because so much of my growth has come from giving support to others and receiving it in return.
One of my proudest achievements in life is being the first in my family to travel abroad, study for my master’s degree, and build an international career. That experience pushed me far outside my comfort zone and taught me resilience, independence, and the importance of believing in myself.
In my role as a QA Operative, I’m proud of how I’ve developed and the part I play in maintaining high standards while supporting my team. Outside of work, I continue to be there for my family and friends, offering encouragement and sharing the lessons I’ve learned along the way.
I’ve seen first-hand that when women lift each other up, incredible things happen. Celebrating IWD gives me the chance to honour not only my own path, but also the many women who inspire me to keep striving and keep giving back.
