🌸Incredible women in my life🌸
🌷Well what can I say it’s been a week of digging deep and finding strength, focus, and carrying on no matter what comes your way.

🌷Those of you who had the pleasure of meeting my incredibly strong mum will know I got my independence, resilience and ‘never give up’ attitude from her.

🌷She is the first of a list of many women to thank on international woman’s day, including aunts, colleagues, teachers, friends, family members, all who stand up for one another no matter what.

🌷What I would like to add based on my experiences this week, is the importance of respecting and appreciating each others opinions and professions. I like to work with other women not against recognising their strengths and achievements. But it seems everyone has an opinion on other people professions nowadays without thought or respect, most of which have worked incredibly hard to master their profession with passion & hard work.
So for the nutrition/supplement sceptics out there, here’s a brief summary of my recent achievements with patients/clients.
🌷Avoidance of going on statins
🌷Reduced NAFLD,
🌷Cessation of reflux, joint point, and IBS symptoms,
🌷Lower blood pressure,
🌷Improved mood,

📕 And what with it being world book day, it’s the perfect time to sharing with you that the book is almost completed for you all the read. 📚

🌸Controversial post alert🌸

Disappointed by the recent BBC Panorama documentary on high HRT dosing for menopause? I certainly was. While it highlighted important concerns, it missed a crucial opportunity to share positive lifestyle and nutrition advice that could empower women. The focus on negative stories overshadowed the experiences of the practitioners helping hundreds.

Women need guidance from qualified practitioners with at least three years of training in nutrition and lifestyle—those who offer a holistic approach, not quick fixes. This was never discussed. Again disappointing.

With every man and his dog able to purchase quick qualifications to become a so called ‘menopause expert’, in an already saturated unregulated industry of menopause coaching and the like, getting experienced support is crucial. Where was this vital information for women during the program! Nowhere! Nada! The only hint of non-HRT information was during a 5 minute feature on, dare I say, poor quality menopause supplements.
Again very disappointing.
So I’m putting it out there.

There ARE effective natural alternatives to HRT, and it’s vital to find the right support tailored to individual needs.

Help is out there; let’s ensure it’s from trusted sources. Would love to hear your thoughts on this subject.

🌸Did you know that up to the menopause, women are relatively protected from heart disease compared to men of the same age.

🌸This is because of the protective effect of oestrogen on the blood vessels.

🌸Unfortunately after menopause blood vessels lose the oestrogen protection, and can become rigid and narrow, increasing risk of heart disease.

🌸❤️❤️BUT it’s not all doom and gloom because there is so much we can do to reduce this risk. ❤️❤️🌸

🌸One of which I will cover now which is changing your diet to include more phytoestrogens. This is a starting point. Many lifestyle factors will also offer support alongside an appropriate diet which I will cover in other posts.

For now the top phytoestrogens include-
🌸Flaxseed
🌸Good quality tofu
🌸Edamame beans
🌸Lentils
🌸Chickpeas
🌸Sage
🌸Celery
🌸Garlic
🌸Sesame seeds
🌸Sunflower seeds
🌸Oats

🌸FREE HEALTHY RECIPE🌸

I see a lot of patients who need to reduce or eliminate sugary foods due to a medical condition.

But it isn’t straightforward for many as sugar cravings is a big problem for them. Asking them to eliminate straightaway is not realistic.

To help overcome this issue I normally suggest a healthy sweet option during the early stages of changing their diet so they are not battling with going cold turkey and the associated symptoms this brings.

Here is one of many recipes I would suggest to someone who has time to and likes cooking and likes muffins. But I provide different ideas to suit each individual person. Here is one such idea.

🌸Sweet Potato & Cinnamon Muffin🌸
INGREDIENTS
🌸300g of cooked and mashed sweet potato
🌸200g of flour of choice. I use rye flour
🌸200g of almond flour
🌸1/2 cup of chopped walnuts
🌸1/2 cup of monk fruit or coconut sugar
🌸4 tablespoons of olive oil or melted coconut oil
🌸300ml of nut milk. I use cashew milk
🌸2 tsp of baking powder
🌸 4 tablespoons of maple syrup
🌸1 tsp of cinnamon
🌸1/2 tsp of nutmeg

METHOD
Mix all the dry ingredients in a large bowl and then add the mashed potato and remaining ingredients. Mix until well combined.
Place in 14 muffin cases on a muffin baking tin.
Cook for approximately 25 minutes at 170C.
When cooked allow to cool and if you wish drizzle a little 70% melted dark chocolate on top.

🌸I love this time of year so I can get up at the crack of dawn, take my two dogs and go outside with 🧺basket in hand to go blackberry picking. So handy to have in the freezer and use as part of your diet.

And here are the reasons why -
Blackberries are a highly nutritious berry that provide a variety of health benefits. They are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that can help boost immunity, improve heart health ❤️(my favourite)and promote healthy skin. Some other benefits of blackberries include aiding in digestion, reducing inflammation, and maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.

🥤 Here are a few recipe ideas:

🌸Blackberry smoothie-
Blend blackberries with banana, yogurt, and a splash of almond milk for a refreshing and nutritious breakfast or snack.

🌸Blackberry salad-
Toss blackberries with mixed greens, feta cheese, and nuts for a colorful and flavorful salad.

🌸Blackberry chia pudding-
Mix blackberries with chia seeds, almond milk, and a sweetener of your choice for a tasty and healthy dessert.

If your blood pressure is high then knowing the right foods to eat can lessen the worry.

My up coming book ‘Steps To Lower Blood Pressure’ will provide you with clear and easy to follow advice including lots of recipe ideas.

Recently I made the above two meals that will feature in my book.

🌸 1. Mushroom & bean curry with lots of garlic, red onion, ginger and spices, plus 3 different vegetables. It is packed with flavour without the need to add lots of salt.

🌸2. Rocket, Beetroot & Feta salad. This takes less than 5 minutes to put together. Dark green rocket leaves, walnuts and pecans, sliced pear & beetroot, topped with feta. No salt is needed for this meal.

Both of the above quick meal ideas contain the key nutrients to support vasodilation, helping to support your blood pressure.

🌸MAKING HEAlTHIER CHOICES 🌸

🌸If you want to make healthier choices when it comes to satisfying your ‘sweet tooth’ one or two of these gems are a great alternative to the heavily processed and inflammatory shop bought sweet stuff.

🌸They are packed with fibre, minerals such as calcium, zinc, magnesium and iron, but also vitamin E and antioxidants. Even thought ideal as an occasional treat, I would not recommend for someone looking for weight loss or lowering blood sugar levels. Moderation is key
Enjoy 🌸

🍫 DARK CHOCOLATE DATE & NUT 🥜
These are delicious if I do say so myself.

🌸All you need is -
🍫 85% melted dark chocolate
🌰 Fresh dates
🥜 Tahini
🌸Almond butter
🌰Crunchy peanut butter
🍫A few macadamias

Remove stone from the dates and fill with 1/2 tsp of either nut butter or tahini. I added in a chopped macadamia into a few of the tahini ones.
When the melted chocolate is slightly cool dip in the filled dates and spoon over the chocolate until covered. Repeat and place in the fridge until set.

Have you being told that you may need to take statins because of your elevated cholesterol levels?

I feel this is the perfect day to announce my upcoming book all about how to lower blood pressure naturally.

On my way to taking my older children to school this morning, I saw Harry Potters, aliens, princesses, detectives etc all happily walking to school. It definitely put a smile on my face as I remembered back to when I used dress my two kids up in all sorts thanks to Roald Dahl and David Walliams! And when I got back I felt for sure this was the perfect day to share my exciting news.

I’m over half way through writing and aim to have it published by May the latest.
