*Amber Heat Health Alert*

The UK Health Security Agency has now issued an Amber Heat Health Alert for some parts of England, valid until Monday 14 July at 9.00am, with temperatures expected to exceed 30°C.

High temperatures can put people at risk, especially older adults, young children, and those with underlying health conditions. Health and care services may face more pressure, and indoor spaces could become dangerously warm.

Top tips to stay safe:

For clients:

• offer water regularly
• keep curtains/blinds closed during the hottest parts of the day
• encourage light, loose clothing
• avoid outings between 11am–3pm
• use fans or ventilation safely
• apply sunscreen and wear hats when outside
• watch for signs of heat exhaustion: dizziness, nausea, confusion, heavy sweating

For colleagues:

• stay hydrated and carry water with you
• take your breaks in cool or shaded places
• wear SPF 30+ if outdoors for long periods

Happy Disability Pride Month!

Today we are shining the spotlight on Disability Pride Month which was founded in 1990 with the aim of raising awareness and promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities. It also creates conversations among people who are not part of the disabled community on how best to support people with disabilities.

In 2019 Ann Magill created the Disability Pride flag shown below with the colours representing each type of disability:

- Red – physical disabilities
- Gold/yellow – neurodivergence
- White – invisible and undiagnosed disabilities
- Blue – mental health conditions and illnesses
- Green – sensory disabilities
