Sea and Land Therapy The fundamental philosophy of Sea and Land Therapy is that I believe in the uniqueness of the individual. Trauma and complex Mental Health Issues focussed.

That is, that every single person, their experience(s), values and beliefs as well as their perspectives is unique to them. I will understand, support and empower you to make positive changes to your life. Together, we will tackle and alleviate the issues that are troubling you. We will do that by building a strong relationship with firm foundations. Tailoring your therapy personally to you using the variety of modalities, approaches, tools and techniques that I have at my disposal. We will talk, discuss, challenge and also take pro-active action throughout your therapeutic journey. Whether that be indoors or a combination of indoors and outdoors.

January doesn’t recognise January.

‘January’ is the name we have given to these 31 days. It’s neither good or bad. For some it’s the summer for others the winter, essentially, it’s just a period of time.

Time is fleeting, unstoppable and cannot be bought, but wants to be consciously used. Plan, rest, relax and be spontaneous with it, but never wallow in it.

Wallowing leads to wishing away, which leads to regret, rumination and sadness.
Play with time, like a child with play dough. Moulding and shaping it and you’ll be surprised by what happens. You will build memories, make connections and thrive in it.

Respecting influencing and appreciating your time will lead to valuing yourself and your life. 🌊 & 🏔

The Hard Yards of Self Care.

Here at Sea and Land Therapy, we work a lot with the concepts known as ‘Self-Care’. It can sometimes be misinterpreted as something that is ‘fluffy’ or requires indulgence. But it is essential for Well-Being and time must be Made for it. That time does not need to be hours, it can be minutes as long as it’s consistent in our daily pattern of lives.

It is more than a bubble bath with rose petals and tealights. It encompasses all the critical elements in order to thrive and enjoy life and our relationships. Such as Boundaries, Self-Regulation, Meaning and Purpose, Making connections and positive experiences, rest and resourcing. At times it can be robust and pro-active, at others sensitive, protective and regenerative. Most importantly, it is a constant, it requires us to be aware of it, make time for ourselves, others and compromise where it’s appropriate.

Have a think, do you make time for yourself? Do you have the ability to reset, refuel, readjust and at times compromise. If not, what can you do to make the small changes to make time for the things, relationships and pursuits that give you contentment and happiness? 🌊& 🏔️

The Rear View Mirror

At times we all feel that there is no way forwards. Everything and everyone seem to be against us. But we still have choices, even if we can’t see them in that moment.

We cannot change the past, but we can learn to accept and acknowledge it. Taking away the pain from it, including how it affects us in our present and the decisions we make going forwards that don’t seem to go right.

Over time with the right support, we can acquire different perspectives and grow. This will empower us to influence our lives and gain resilience to build the life we want for ourself both now and in the future.

Thus, leaving the past in the past, getting ever further away in the ‘Rear View Mirror’ and live the life we want to.

When beginning we must remember that there is no perfect start point. Beginning is the only way to start.

The first choice is understanding that we require support. It’s a big step reaching out and takes courage, but we are all capable of it.
When you start, talk to a few people, make sure they’re right for you. This is an important decision.

Look for someone with:

1. Patience: Someone who will take the time to listen and understand no matter how long it takes.
2. Humility: Someone who does not judge and bring their own biases, but is really content to appreciate how it is for you.
3. Impartiality: Someone with no agendas or motives other than your physical and mental well-being.
4. Honesty: Someone who will tell you the truth no matter how difficult but who will sit with you and support you through this.

YOU decide on who this person is. Already you have made 2 choices (Beginning and finding the right Support) and have become accountable and responsible for your own future. You’re now on the road going forwards.

Don’t hesitate, act now, start today and before you know it the past will start to disappear into the ‘Rear View Mirror’

RESOURCING OURSELVES

MAKING time for ourselves to resource on a consistent daily basis enables us to be fully fuelled to take on all the responsibilities and stresses we have in everyday life.

Yes, we need those bigger resources that take about 1 hour plus to do, to make us feel good. These are the activities, hobbies and interests that we can do some days and, on the weekends, dependent on our free time.

Yet many do not take a NUMBER of small moments every day to ‘check in’ with themselves and do something that makes them content. Giving themselves a reward, whether that be physical, psychological, emotional or a mixture of all.

If we structure into our working days small moments of doing things that are solely for us, it helps us maintain a regular amount of those feel-good hormones such as Dopamine, Endorphins etc, in our bodies. This in turn makes us not only more resilient when dealing with challenge or stress, but also, we are more content and happier more of the time.

This is not selfish, more so one of the fundamental aspects of Self-Care, so that the best version of us is present, for more of the time.

Take the time to consider, do you at times feel fatigued in your everyday life? Do you do enough for yourself? Do you know how to re-fuel yourself? How would you start doing this?
