Life sure does get tricky sometimes and in the thick of another cold for this little guy, I can feel my own self care is moving to the bottom of the pile. That means that sometimes a yoga practice needs to adapt to make the space for a cuddle and a flick through Bodhi’s favourite book. Making time to get outside is a current priority to fill my lungs with the good stuff and consciously making an effort to go a bit easier on myself - anyone else’s internal monologue on overload right now?!

If you’re a mama to a little human and want some space to move without thinking about the dishes/laundry/laundry that’s done but not put away, then come on over to every Tuesday 11.15-12.15 for mama & baby yoga. No experience required and it’s a lovely safe space to bond with your little one and stretch out your own body to make way for a little more ease physically and emotionally.

Little flashback to a pregnant mama soaking up some serene moments whilst growing my little Bodhi bear. You know, having a baby in the midst of a pandemic really did cause a lot of hurdles on so many levels, but I’m thankful that it allowed me some considerable down time that I wouldn’t have otherwise been able to take. And oh boy do I count my blessings that it worked out that way as I know for so many, the situation was far from restful - and still isn’t in many cases. But it was this time to tune inwards that inspired the Pregnancy Afternoon Mini Retreat that I’m co-hosting with my wonderful friend and absolutely brilliant restorative yoga teacher on 23rd October at from 1-5pm.

Designed to facilitate some seriously deep rest, provide an opportunity to connect with other mamas and to get an all round energy boost and reset, it’s the perfect afternoon for any mama-to-be. Afternoon treats from the cafe are included, as well as a gorgeous goodie bag to take away with you. More info through the link in my bio. Hi loves ✨ Not sure I’ve ever done one of these about me kind of posts but now I’ve been back teaching for four months since maternity leave and with some new followers along for the ride, I thought it was about time I said hello!

I’ve been practice yoga since 2015(ish) and teaching since 2018 and like it has for so many, yoga has become an anchor in my life through some pretty turbulent years. I would say my classes are less about working towards goal poses but more about finding a state of ease and acceptance within yourself, learning to judge less and notice more as a means of living a life with more freedom (both physically and mentally). My vinyasa classes are slow and strong, always with choices along the way and the encouragement to explore what feels right in your body. As I often cite in class, the yin teacher Bernie Clark says that we use the shape to get into the body, not the body to get into the shape.

More recently, I have begun teaching pregnancy & postnatal yoga after becoming a mother myself in the height of a pandemic. Again, yoga saw me through these difficult times and gave me a way of connecting to my body and my baby whilst it felt like the world was going mad outside my front door. There isn’t enough space here to delve into the difficulties of growing, birthing and mothering a baby, but I really do completely and utterly get the devotion and surrender this incredible process takes. I am so honoured to hold these nurturing spaces for mums-to-be and new mums to find their own connection, whether that be with one another, their baby or their body (hopefully all three!)

🍂 Autumn schedule 🍂

I’m a huge advocate for self care always, but especially in these months where everything gets a little bit darker outside & cosier inside and the urge to not take the time to connect with our bodies can sometimes win (I get it, that sofa really does have magic powers!) Any questions, send them my way. As some of my gorgeous pregnancy mamas have started welcoming their beautiful babies into this world, we now have some spots available on the Saturday pregnancy class too!

Let me tell you about this really special thing called pregnancy yoga ✨

We move, we breathe, we chat about placentas and sending pictures of mucus plugs, we laugh at the physical challenges you face when you have a baby attached to the front of you, we find fresh energy and deep rest, we share experiences and wisdom with one another of our own unique journeys and our united ones too, we sit together in this space and take some time for self care and connection with our baby (or babies should I say as we welcomed our first expectant twin mama today!) amongst the turbulence that comes with such a huge transition in life. It’s pretty damn special, I promise you. It warms my heart so much every time I leave the studio and spot my pregnant mamas continuing their conversations over a coffee in the cafe, because I know these are connections they’ll keep for life. Why not come and join us? Every Tuesday 9.45-10.45am and Saturday 10.30-11.30am both at ✨

We also have a really gorgeous pregnancy yoga afternoon retreat coming up on 23rd October 1-5pm. This includes an opening circle, two deeply nourishing yoga practices, yoga nidra, treats from the cafe and a goodie bag to take home with you. ✨ Afternoon Pregnancy Yoga Retreat ✨

I am so, so excited to announce that myself and the beautiful Jo Mary Longman Yoga are co-hosting a pregnancy mini retreat at Sunshine Cafe & Yoga on 4th September from 1pm-5pm.

With revitalizing and restoring yoga practices to ease out any pregnancy niggles and yoga nidra to facilitate deep rest and release tension, this half day retreat will leave you floating out with a renewed sense of calm. We'll break for deliciously nourishing warm drinks and cake from the cafe during the afternoon, and when the day comes to a close, we'll come together for a chance to reflect and discuss (and to dig into the goodie bags filled with treats to take away with you!)

It's set to be a truly special afternoon of connection and self-care for yourself and your baby, and leave you with a deep sense of ease and restoration. I can't wait to connect with you there xx
