Cornwall Funeral Services

Cornwall Funeral Services Independent Family Funeral Directors with Funeralhomes in Redruth, Truro and Newlyn In 2020 we moved to our new premises in Higher Fore Street, Redruth.

Cornwall Funeral Services takes pride in offering a dignified and professional service, with a strong focus on family values. We call ourselves the CFS family and we very much adopt this ideal in every way - well, actually, some of us are related and a number of the other members of the team are just like family. Our Directors: Scott & Matt Watters & Morgan Court, have a bond from many years of relationships allowing us to offer the reassuring support people need at the difficult time when a loved one has passed away. This is more accessible as we have our own parking and has allowed us to upgrade our facilities further including having our own chapel for families to say their farewell if they wish.

๐ŸŒธ Floral Tributes โ€“ A Beautiful Way to Say Goodbye ๐ŸŒธ

Flowers have long been a part of farewells, offering comfort, beauty, and a gentle way to express emotions when words feel hard to find.

At Cornwall Funeral Services, we see how floral tributes bring a personal touch to each service. From traditional wreaths and sprays to bespoke arrangements that reflect a loved oneโ€™s hobbies, passions, or personality, flowers are a perfect way to honour someone.

We are exceptionally lucky to have brilliant, close relationships with a number of local florists who we know will work with you to create a tribute that truly reflects your loved one.

Below are just a few examples of the beautiful tributes we have had through our doors. If you have any questions about floral tributes, why don't you comment on this post or give us a call!

Today we have the great honour to be at Centenary Methodist Church in Newlyn to say farewell to a bright and colourful local lady. Although the weather is 'changeable' today, the place that she called home is always beautiful and picturesque.๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›

Why do Funeral Directors Walk in Front of a Hearse? ๐ŸŽฉ

At Cornwall Funeral Services, one of the most symbolic moments during a funeral is when the funeral director walks in front of the hearse. Known as "paging", this gesture is more than traditionโ€”itโ€™s a meaningful act of respect, reflection, and reverence.

But where does it come from?
This custom dates back to the days of horse-drawn hearses, when a funeral director would lead the cortege on foot through village streets, ensuring a steady pace and showing dignity throughout the journey. It was a public acknowledgement of a death in the communityโ€”a quiet invitation for others to stop, bow their heads, and pay their respects.

Today, we uphold this tradition for the very same reasons:
โ€“ To create a moment of stillness and solemnity
โ€“ To lead the farewell with care and dignity
โ€“ And to honour the unique life of the person we are accompanying on their final journey

Itโ€™s a small act, but one that carries great meaning. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›

She approaches each person in our care as if they were her own loved one, ensuring they are treated gently, respectfully, and with the utmost attention. Her calm presence and deep sense of responsibility bring peace of mind to grieving families, even when words canโ€™t.

Why do we do what we do
At Cornwall Funeral Services, itโ€™s more than a job โ€” itโ€™s a commitment to care.
Scott, Matt, Morgan, Dave and Ann all chose this profession for the same reason:
To be there when people need someone most.
To listen. To guide. To help families say goodbye with dignity and love.
We do it because:
๐Ÿ’ฌ A kind word can bring real comfort.
๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ A well-prepared service can bring peace.
โค๏ธ And every life deserves to be honoured properly.
We're proud to walk alongside our community in both sorrow and remembrance.
If you ever need us โ€” weโ€™re here.

๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’› World Friendship Day โ€“ 30th July 2025 ๐Ÿ’›๐ŸŒ
Friendship has the power to unite people across borders, beliefs, and backgrounds โ€” and World Friendship Day, also known as the International Day of Friendship, is our global reminder of just that.
Celebrated this year on Wednesday 30th July 2025, this special day encourages individuals, communities, and nations to recognise the strength found in kindness, empathy, and connection.
Established by the United Nations, itโ€™s a chance to:
โœจ Celebrate lifelong friendships
๐Ÿค Reach out to someone new
๐ŸŒŽ Reflect on how friendship can help build a more peaceful, understanding world
In times of conflict or isolation, friendship can be the bridge that brings people together. So today, whether near or far, take a moment to appreciate those who stand by you โ€” and consider being that person for someone else.
Letโ€™s make the world a little warmer, one friendship at a time.

๐ŸŒŸ Samaritans Awareness Day โ€“ 24th July ๐ŸŒŸ

Every year on 24th July, we take a moment to recognise the life-saving work of Samaritans โ€“ a charity offering free, confidential emotional support to anyone whoโ€™s struggling ๐Ÿ’ญ

The date is no coincidence โ€“ 24/7 reflects their promise to be there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week โ€“ whenever someone needs to talk ๐Ÿ“ž๐Ÿ’ฌ

This day is all about:
๐Ÿง  Raising awareness of mental health
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Encouraging open, honest conversations
๐Ÿ’š Reminding everyone that help is always available

โœจ You can get involved by:
โœ… Sharing the Samaritans number: 116 123
โœ… Checking in on friends and family
โœ… Supporting Samaritansโ€™ vital work through donations or volunteering

Letโ€™s help spread the message: You are never alone. Someone is always ready to listen. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ’ป Webcasting Funerals: Staying Connected When It Matters Most
Whether family lives far away, friends are unwell, or circumstances make travel difficult โ€” live-streaming a funeral ensures no one misses the chance to say goodbye.
At Cornwall Funeral Services, we offer respectful and secure webcasting options, so loved ones can be part of the service, wherever they are. We are also proud to support local charities such as Redruth Charity Trust with their events.
Our own Scott Watters was interviewed some years ago by Funeral Guide for their article on the topic โ€” offering insight into how families can approach funeral webcasts with confidence and care.

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Why do funerals in the UK take longer than in other countries?

Itโ€™s something weโ€™re often asked โ€” why does it take over a week (sometimes longer) to arrange a funeral here, when in some places it happens within a day or two?

Hereโ€™s why ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ“ Legal steps first
In the UK, a death must be formally registered before anything else can happen. If it was unexpected, a coroner may also need to investigate โ€” and that can add several days or more.

โ˜€๏ธ Climate & culture
In warmer countries, funerals happen more quickly โ€” often due to the heat and longstanding cultural traditions. It's not unusual for them to take place within 24โ€“48 hours.

๐Ÿ’ Time to personalise
Here in the UK, families often want time to plan something more personal โ€” choosing flowers, music, readings and making sure loved ones can attend.

๐Ÿ“… Availability
Crematoria and venues can be busy, especially in certain areas โ€” meaning you may need to wait for the next available date and time.

So while it might feel frustrating, the wait is usually due to law, logistics and tradition โ€” not because anyone is dragging their feet.

โค๏ธ If you ever have questions, weโ€™re here to help explain the process.
