This PTSD Awareness Day (27 June), we’re reflecting on how our understanding and treatment of PTSD has evolved and what that means for the veterans we support.

Here are 4 key ways our care has changed:

•Trauma-informed care: All staff are trained to create safe, supportive experiences that help prevent retraumatisation.

•Recognition of Complex PTSD: We’re global leaders in C-PTSD research and treatment, supporting those affected by long-term trauma.

•Personalised treatment: Every veteran receives care tailored to their needs, goals, and preferences.

•Data-driven care: We track and improve outcomes using real-time clinical data, 70% of veterans no longer meet PTSD or C-PTSD criteria after treatment.

PTSD is complex, but recovery is possible. And we’re proud to be part of that journey. Read more about how our care is evolving: https://combatstress.org.uk/blog/changing-face-ptsd

PTSD affects millions of people worldwide, including military veterans, first responders and survivors of abuse. To help increase understanding of the causes, symptoms, impact and treatment for the condition, and to mark PTSD Awareness Day (27 June 2025), we’re offering access to a specialist training course; ‘Trauma and PTSD’.

The course will be available for no charge through our training platform, Combat Stress Learning, between Monday 1 June and Thursday 3 July, and will include seven short topics:

🫥 What is PTSD?
🫥 PTSD and the brain
🫥 PTSD and the family
🫥 How to support someone with PTSD
🫥 Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD)
🫥 The impact to exposure to traumatic material; vicarious traumatisation
🫥 Moral Injury

These topics will take around 90 minutes to complete, and you can undertake them in your own time at a pace that best suits you. You can also choose from two different variants of the course available – one specifically for friends, family and carers of veterans one for professionals employing veterans.

On Thursday 3 July, all those who have completed the course will have the opportunity to have an interactive live one-hour Q&A session with Dr Vicky Aldridge, Principal Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Lead at Combat Stress. During the session Vicky will answer any further questions about PTSD, or the training.
