Karen’s philosophy towards aesthetics has evolved from correcting what might be perceived as physical imperfections to appreciating the inner beautiful qualities in someone and then mirroring them in their physical appearance. Simply enhancing physical features creates an inner calm, confidence and well being. Enhancing our physical selves honours our emotional and psychological selves.

My client thought the lines on her face were making her look sad and more importantly were making her feel sad too. Following a medical consultation we decided on a little aesthetic lift correcting the loss of volume and revitalising her lower face.

FOREHEAD ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS

Have you ever had anti-wrinkle injections in multiple areas, and find it doesn’t last as long on one particular area? Below might be why 🔽

When we inject a muscle with anti-wrinkle injections, it relaxes it in the OPPOSITE direction to what the muscle contracts.

The frontalis (forehead muscle) raises the eyebrows up, when contracted. When anti-wrinkle injections are injected into the frontalis muscle, it relaxes it DOWN, not up. This is one muscle we have to really assess before injecting. If too much product is injected here, or too low down, you are at risk of eyebrow ptosis (droop). Therefore, we have to treat less than other areas to avoid brow ptosis. When treating with less product to avoid this, it’s going to wear off quicker. I always ask my patients, would you prefer potential brow ptosis and get the longevity, or avoid ‘heavy’ brows and it wear off quicker? I can guarantee everyone says the latter.

I always treat extra conservatively on the forehead. If you still have more than desired movement there after 2 weeks, pop back in for your follow-up appointment and more can be injected. I will then know for next treatment that you can potentially have more product in this area.

The glabella (frown) complex consists of very strong depressor muscles, so a larger dose may be administered here, as it relaxes the glabella UP and out. Injecting the glabella area will help support the frontalis when injected and I never inject the forehead alone for this reason.
