We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of our dear friend and colleague Val James.

In 2011 Val retired from the NHS and joined our team at Gilbert’s Coombe Chiropractic as a receptionist as “something to keep the little grey cells active”. After 14 years with us Val was an intrinsic part of clinic life.

She was an indomitable lady who leaves us with wonderful memories across all of those years and tales of France & boats & horses & New Zealand.

We will miss her zest for life, her incredible kindness to everyone and her simply fabulous footwear!

Never before have I treated a pony in the dining room!!

Was the best place to be in the delightful weather though ☔️ and Paddy was totally chill with the location.

THE FACE OF INNOCENCE!
Couldn’t possibly have been me that knocked the kick bolt over on the door locking you all in the stable and requiring Emma to prove that she’s still agile enough to vault over a stable door 🤣🤣🤣

Several observational studies published last year suggest that your dog or cat could meaningfully reduce your risk of developing dementia, especially if you’re over the age of 50.

Japanese researchers published a study that looked at 11,194 older adults to see whether owning dogs or cats provided a protective effect against dementia.

Compared to those without pets, dog owners were 40 percent less likely to develop dementia over the course of four years. Dog owners who were social or exercised regularly experienced an extra 20 percent decrease in dementia risk.

Chinese researchers published a similar study last year, also looking at the link between pet ownership and cognitive decline among a cohort of 7,495 adults over the age of 50 in the UK.
The participants received psychological tests to assess their memory, verbal fluency, and thinking eight years apart.

Owning a dog was associated with a slower rate of cognitive decline among individuals who were living alone.

⛔️From 9th September for 10 weeks National Highways: South-West will be closing the flyovers of Avers Interchange. ⛔️

There will still be access to Northcountry via the Eastbound A30 slip road.

Westbound A30 slip road will have access to the Aldi roundabout allowing access to the A3047 towards Redruth. At the mini roundabout at the bottom of the hill you can then turn right onto the B3300 New Portreath Road to get to clinic. Alternatively Westbound A30 traffic can go to the Camborne junction and rejoin the Eastbound A30 to then access Northcountry and come to clinic that way.

All other routes to clinic should be unaffected but please allow extra time for your journey as surrounding routes may have heavier than normal traffic.

INFORMATION FROM NATIONAL HIGHWAYS:
We’re carrying out repairs and maintenance to the Avers Interchange on the A30 at Redruth.

Working on the roundabout above the A30, we’ll be repairing and replacing expansion joints, resurfacing and waterproofing. This will maintain and improve safety for everyone using this busy junction.

Our work will start on Monday 9 September. It will take up to ten weeks. We’ll be using a mixture of lane and full closures to allow us to work as safely and quickly as possible, with least disruption.

Closure information

From 7am on Monday 9 September, the Avers Interchange roundabout over the A30 will be closed:

between the eastbound entry and westbound exit
between the westbound entry and eastbound exit
The A30 will remain open as usual through the junction.

Diversion routes will be in place for eastbound traffic wanting to access Redruth and westbound traffic going towards North Country by travelling to the next junction and returning.

The roundabout is due to fully reopen in late-November, however this work is subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress. We’ll be posting updates on our webpage.

Fully closing sections of the roundabout for solid blocks of time means we can reduce the time needed for this work from nine months to ten weeks.

More information and a map showing the diversions can be found here:
