Second baby due later on this year, so I have decided to take a break from my private work and will hopefully be back offering appointments at some point in 2024.

If you need to find a private Paediatric Physiotherapist, there is a database which you can search on the APCP website (just google "APCP private directory").

Genetic syndromes and conditions such as Down's Syndrome ......
Children may require input from a Paediatric Physiotherapist for many reasons including support with achieving particular milestones, improving their gross motor skills/balance/coordination, advice around participation in sports/hobbies, and addressing functional difficulties.

Conditions or syndrome may be well known, or highly rare. Either way, we assess and treat the individual, based on their unique challenges and goals.

September is childhood cancer awareness month.

There is a very special place in my heart for all children I have worked with who have cancer & their incredible, supportive, loving families.

These are a few of the amazing charities who support families with children diagnosed with cancer:
https://www.gkcct.org/
https://www.childrenwithcancer.org.uk/
http://www.myshiningstar.co.uk/

I've also included a couple of posts on signs & symptoms to look out for in children and young people. We must increase awareness, and encourage parents to trust their instincts, you know your own child better than anyone! And if something isn't right, then make sure someone listens to you.

Please note all pictures are reposts, I can't take credit for the work, just want to spread the awareness.

Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy surgery.....

A very emotive topic for many families whose child has Cerebral Palsy. So many questions....
Does your child have the type of CP that responds to SDR? How will it change their function? Will they learn to walk by themselves? Are they too old/young? Will you be able to commit to the extensive rehab? And many more I'm sure.

If your child has been accepted for an SDR or you are considering an assessment at a tertiary centre, I can support you through the assessment process as well as offering rehabilitation sessions in the comfort of your own home following the surgery.

I have been fortunate enough that over the years my Paediatric Physiotherapy experience has covered acute as well as community. I have worked on several hospital wards supporting children with respiratory conditions such as Cystic Fibrosis, and chest infections complicated by underlying neurological conditions.
If you need support with a respiratory routine at in the community, feel free to get in touch.
Email: anna.childrens.physio@outlook.com

Please note -
- I can only visit non-Surrey schools for this service but I can complete home visits more locally
- Respiratory support available is only for non-ventilated children
- This is not an emergency or urgent care service, please contact the GP/111/A&E/999 appropriately if required.

If your child has Cerebral Palsy or another similar neurological condition, then a Paediatric Physiotherapist can provide an assessment, intervention and tailored advice to address problems related to:
- their mobility
- functional difficulties
- participation in sports/hobbies/activities of daily living
- pain
- reduced range of motion or muscle lengths
- developing or maintaining gross motor skills
- orthotics and specialist equipment.

Feel free to contact me for a free telephone consultation to discuss whether an assessment of your child is required.

So what are normal milestones? And how do you know if your baby or child is on track with their development?
The first thing to be aware of is that normal development varies, a lot, particularly with things like taking their first steps. It is easy to fall into the trap of comparing your baby/child to others, and then worrying they are behind, when actually they are well with normal limits. However, parental instincts that something is not quite right can be an indication that your baby/child needs an assessment by a health care professional. If you are concerned, it is best to talk to your Health Visitor or GP first.
A Paediatric Physiotherapist predominantly focuses on gross motor skills (sitting, rolling, crawling, walking, running, jumping etc), although we have a good awareness of the other areas of development too. And whilst every child develops at their own pace, a Physiotherapist can help to teach you how to maximise their opportunities to learn and reach their full potential with their gross motor skills. If your child's development is falling outside of normal limits, we can then give you an indication as to why this may be.

I work for the NHS as well as being available to do some private work. I love the NHS (flaws and all) and I am passionate about the work I do.
Continuing to work for the NHS alongside my private clients has many benefits. It keeps me up to date with current practices and guidelines, as well as peer support & shared learning. However, due to conflict of interest, please be aware I cannot see my or my direct team member's NHS patients privately.
