We use a range of equipment in the pool to support our clients depending on their clinical needs, goals, and water confidence/experience.

There are different ways to achieve similar/same outcomes, and therefore, we can adapt sessions to suit individual needs.

ATACP (Aquatic Therapy Association of Chartered Physiotherapists) guidelines recommend that hydrotherapy pools be maintained at a temperature between 32-35.5°C (90-96°F). Ideally, they should be kept at a thermoneutral temperature of 34.5-35.5°C (94-96°F). This temperature range helps to relax muscles, reduce pain, improve circulation, and promote joint range of movement.

The pool at LHAP is closely monitored to maintain the optimum temperature. It will feel much warmer than leisure swimming pools, but not too warm to exercise effectively either.

At LHAP, we assess and treat children as well as adults. Our Physiotherapists have experience treating all age groups, as well as a wide range of clinical specialities.

Another option to access the pool - our pool chair and hoist. For clients able to do a transfer from wheelchair to chair or for mobile clients who may not manage the steps for any reason. This is an easy, safe, and efficient option to enter and exit the pool. The chairs are on wheels and can be moved from the changing rooms to the hoist, simply connected, and then the client is lowered straight into the lovely warm water.

We also have a ceiling track hoist system that goes directly from two changing rooms straight into the pool as another option (photos to follow).

LHAP has recently hosted several Aquatic Physiotherapy courses, run by Dr Heather Epps, including the “AquaEpps® for Children and Young People with Neurological Dysfunction” course. We had visitors attending from all over the UK, and also several international visitors, coming from as far as Canada.  The course is a mixture of land-based theory, case studies and group discussions supported by Dr Epps, and also time spent in the pool learning new handling techniques, skills and treatment approaches. Dr Epps teaches invaluable skills and approaches for children and young people, which can be used on their own, or in conjunction with other aquatic physiotherapy approaches. A big thank you to everyone who attended, especially for travelling so far, and for the lovely feedback received. The details and dates of up-and-coming courses can all be found on the Aquaepps website at https://aquaepps.co.uk/ or Contact: info@aquaepps.co.uk or 01737 919 094
