This week ...

If I mediation with my ex, will I still have to go to court?

No, mediation is an alternative to the court process. In mediation, you and your ex-partner are supported by the mediator to talk with and listen to each other, and to explore and reach your own decisions about a financial settlement and the arrangements for your children.

You are the decision makers in this process rather than the court.

MEDIATION FAQ

What is mediation?

Family mediation is a process where a mediator helps people work out arrangements for children and finances following, or at the time of, separation/divorce.

The process involves an introductory meeting for each individual followed by a series of joint meetings with the aim of talking and listening, exploring ideas and helping people reach mutually agreeable solutions which help everyone to move forward.

Mediators are trained professionals who are skilled at helping people improve communication, and focus on the relevant issues with a view to moving towards solutions.
