This week’s features BSR Practitioner Samantha Mitchelmore’s personal Journey: I was introduced to BSR by my oldest daughter at the beginning of 2013.
I’d been diagnosed with Crohn's disease (an autoimmune disease) a few years before.
I was treated by so many doctors with so many medications that I was more confused than ever, especially since some of these medications consisted of large cortisone doses/harsh immune suppressants which made me feel worse than the Crohn's did.
2012 was a very emotionally hard year for me and by the end of the year I was in a very bad way health wise so my daughter booked me for my first appointment at the beginning of 2013.
At my first session my Practitioner Jean Holman explained how you often get worse before you get better … I think both of us hung in there and I eventually started to turn the corner.
BSR is the only way I can get rid of my internalised emotional stress. I honestly believe that the build up of years of emotional stress is what caused the Crohn's disease in the first place. I started seeing a homeopath too and because of the BSR and homeopathy, I was now able to take a much milder type of medication that didn't wipe out my immune system.
My daughter who was then living in America came back to do the BSR course in 2017. I went to help settle her into her accommodation and stayed for the conference. After the conference, I knew I wanted to do the course too. I flew back to JHB with my Practitioner Jean, admitting to her that I wanted to become a Practitioner too and we shed a few tears together right there on the plane.
Over the next 2 years, life carried on and Jean reminded me every now and again that I needed to get a move on and study BSR. I was supposed to be starting a new job in 2020 and then COVID happened and everything got delayed over & over again. I felt that now was my time to do the course. I decided to reach out to the academy, as I was sure the course for 2020 had been delayed, which it had, and some spaces had opened up as the overseas students couldn't get here with all the travel restrictions.
I was interviewed and accepted and here I am, loving what I do.
I practiced in Randburg, JHB until my husband was headhunted for a job in Cape Town. We made the move a year ago and I now practice in Claremont and Flamingo Vlei.
As far as the Crohn's disease goes, I have been in remission for about 10 years now. BSR is my wellness journey, and my health has gone from strength to strength.
I am so grateful for BSR, I love what I do and it is such a blessing to be able to share it with others.
