Sometimes, physical pain can rapidly ease.
Nicola had suffered from trigeminal neuralgia for four years, with excruciating facial pain on a daily basis. She was avoiding neighbours in case the pain came on while she was talking to them, and had stopped driving due to the fear. She had been prescribed medication, but was struggling with the side effects.
We did a combination of BWRT and hypnotherapy over 2 sessions, addressing the trigeminal neuralgia pain, a preceding traumatic event, and fear about a future MRI scan.
After the first session (27th Feb 2026), Nicola experienced a few minor twinges later on day of the appointment, but hasn't had facial pain since (4th April 2026), is feeling relaxed while driving again, and completed the MRI.
Nicola rated the therapy sessions 5 out of 5.
The medical world does not understand what happened here, although I really hope that medical research does more to investigate "emerging" therapies. BWRT is 20 years old, clinical hypnotherapy is 200 years old, and both are used by thousands of therapists every day to help people feel better, but they've not been researched enough to make them evidence-based.
For regulatory reasons, I need to say that everyone is different, change is not guaranteed, and Nicola's pain may have just randomly stopped on the first day of treatment after four years. Perhaps a strange coincidence.
