THE POWER OF WORDS AND LANGUAGE: Memory & Nostalgia⠀
⠀
Another week of & the importance that words & language have, & here at CWH our passionate belief that conversation is central to the progress of our individual journeys & the continued growth of our connection as a community. It is what makes us human, what defines us from so many other of the worlds creatures. The ability to transmit, hone & evaluate ideas, reach consensus, create connection, explore emotions &, ultimately, ensure we are understood.⠀⠀
⠀
Kezra and I love a good chat and this fortnightly feature has been such a blessing in allowing us to explore further, parts of the language we use each day, diving in to conversation and the power that it holds. ⠀
⠀
This week I am talking about Memory and Nostalgia, perhaps these words have many meanings or are used in various ways, often painful, often delightful but relevant to all of us as we use both intellectually and emotionally, in work, play and the everyday. ⠀
⠀
Memory is, to a very large extent, what creates our sense of identity. Without memory we couldn't have language, relationships or any meaning sense of self, so it's little wonder we spend a lot of time accessing and assessing memories &, from time to time, wallowing in a little nostalgia.⠀
⠀
But memory is a fluid & unreliable function. Science has proven over & over that our memories are far from accurate & are often enhanced or elaborated upon by things we've experienced or seen at other times.⠀
⠀
On top of this, dementia & brain injuries can rob us of memory, so what are we to make of this? Is there anything we can do about it?⠀
⠀
In my upcoming IGTV, I explore our relationship with our memories & the possible dangers of nostalgia & I encourage you to start living more consciously & intentionally and how you might do that while still enjoying the joy that we can embrace from both of these. ⠀
⠀
How do you find memory or nostalgia, or both, play a role in your life? Has nostalgia ever created a sense of connection that has been a benefit, or even visa versa?⠀
⠀
I'd love to hear your thoughts and for more please visit our other IGTV videos or our You Tube channel - link in bio.
