A recurring topic in my 1.1 sessions is how training the triceps can help with hypermobility in the elbows. Strengthening all three heads, long, lateral, and medial, provides essential support for the elbow joint, enhancing stability and reducing the risk of dislocations or injuries.

Additionally, improved strength and control in the triceps contribute to better overall arm function, which is crucial for those experiencing instability. This training helps prevent overextension and compensatory injuries, allowing individuals to maintain an active lifestyle.

In summary, focusing on all three heads of the triceps enhances joint stability, control, and functional strength while minimising injury risk. If you’d like specific exercises to target these areas, let me know!

Living with hypermobility Ehlers-Danlos syndrome has been a lifelong challenge. From a young age, I always felt different. I was often told, “You’re just bendy,” but it was so much more than that.

As I grew older, I realised that many of my symptoms such as joint instability, fatigue, weakness, and digestive issues were often attributed to the early menopause I experienced at 19, while my hypermobility was frequently dismissed. This period was particularly confusing and challenging as I navigated the complexities of my health.

However, everything changed when I made conscious dietary adjustments and committed to a “CONSISTENT” routine of breathwork, yoga, and strength training tailored for hypermobility. These changes have not only transformed my life but also empowered me to help others on their journeys.

Now, I teach others how to find strength and resilience through these practices, reminding them that they are not alone. Together, we can thrive!

Practicing breathing exercises for nervous system regulation is beneficial for several reasons.

Breathing exercises activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which counteracts the stress response, promoting relaxation and reducing anxiety levels.

Controlled breathing helps increase oxygen flow to the brain, enhancing clarity of thought and concentration, which is particularly useful during stressful situations.

Deep and mindful breathing can help manage emotions, making it easier to cope with feelings of anger, frustration, or sadness.

Engaging in breathing exercises can slow down the heart rate, helping to create a sense of calm and stability in the body.

Incorporating breathing techniques into a night time routine can calm the nervous system, making it easier to fall asleep and improving overall sleep quality.

Controlled breathing can help manage pain by promoting relaxation and reducing tension in the body. Regular practice can enhance overall resilience to stressors, making it easier to navigate challenging situations in daily life.

Five years ago today, I captured this moment to celebrate finishing my yoga trapeze exams, just six months after undergoing bowel surgery due to a combination of bowel disease, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, and experiencing premature menopause at 19.

Since then, I've expanded my fitness journey as a personal trainer, completing my 200 hour yoga teacher training. I’ve also trained in breathing techniques, flexibility (the science of stretching), restorative yoga, hypermobility and a menopause practitioner. I'm currently working toward my 300 hour yoga teacher training. Despite the health challenges I've encountered over the years, I take immense pride in my achievements.

I love working with individuals who are navigating the complexities of chronic pain, as they often feel trapped in a cycle that limits their daily activities. By incorporating breath work, movement and exercise into their routines, we help break this cycle, fostering a renewed sense of empowerment. Our programs not only focus on alleviating physical discomfort through improved strength and flexibility but also address the mental and emotional aspects of chronic pain, helping clients build resilience and confidence in their bodies.

I’ve been honored with the titles of “Health and Wellbeing Specialist of the Year” and “Holistic Workshop Provider of the Year” twice, along with three nominations at the Small Business Awards.

If you're interested in enhancing your strength, balance, and flexibility, feel free to DM me to explore how we can advance your practice.
