Have We Forgotten to Live Seasonally? Rediscovering Renewal in Spring.

As we welcome the new year, many of us celebrate in January, but what if the true new year begins when the Earth awakens in spring? This perspective highlights how we’ve largely forgotten to live seasonally, aligning our lives with the natural rhythms around us. In January, the world outside often feels cold and barren. The trees stand bare, and the earth rests beneath a blanket of frost, creating an atmosphere that can leave us feeling low and disconnected.

Over time, societal norms have conditioned us to view January as a fresh start for renewal, despite nature being in a state of dormancy. Instead of embracing the natural cycle of rest and rejuvenation, we push ourselves to set resolutions and goals when our bodies are inclined to conserve energy and reflect.

The starkness of winter can amplify feelings of lethargy and sadness. As the landscape sleeps, so do our spirits; we might feel an urge to hibernate rather than leap into action. This disconnect from the seasonal cycle can lead to frustration and a sense of inadequacy.

Recognising spring, not January as the true start of the year allows us to honor our natural rhythms. As life begins to bloom, we can align our intentions with the energy of renewal and growth. This shift encourages us to take time in winter for introspection, rest, and preparation, rather than forcing ourselves into productivity when our bodies are still in a resting phase.
