Yoga isn’t always postures, yoga is sometimes just being and listening to what our body and mind need at that time.

Using hatha, yin, meditation, yoga nidra and deep relaxation to help promote calm. All these methods can help with anxiety, insomnia, low mood, hormone issues, chronic fatigue and a numbe of health issues.

Everyone is moving in the best way they can with the best tools they have 🙏🏽

There are no “bad” movements, each person in my yoga class is a complex, dynamic being made up of numerous subsystems, past experiences, emotions, relationships, beliefs, and an extremely sophisticated nervous system.

Given that our movement emerges out of such unique complexity, how could we possibly know what and how to “correct” in another person’s movement?

As a yoga community, we could use to shift our focus away from “correct alignment”, and more toward exploration, self-knowledge, and helping you to practice your “own” yoga but safely.

These types of things can truly make positive change in our students’ bodies - which for me, is the main goal of my yoga practice & teaching 🧘🏽‍♀️

Tonight in our practice we focused on hip openers (much to my clients delight 😉)

There are so many reasons to do hip-opening poses: Supple hips can ease back pain, give you a better posture and even improve circulation in your legs.

But there’s a more subtle benefit to hip openers… When hips are tight, they increase the load and cause overuse of the spine. In addition to the benefits of improved range of motion and circulation and decreased back pain, opening the hips can create an energetic shift or release as well. Yogic tradition holds the hips as a storage ground for negative feelings and pent-up emotions, especially ones related to control in our lives. Hip-opening can also create space for the birth of new ideas and new pathways. Opening the hips gives us access to freedom in the body and in our own unique expression — creatively, physically, sexually, and spiritually 🙏🏽

Tonight we focused on stillness in our practice 🙏🏽 Yoga does not stop our thoughts and feelings, there is also the moving of our body as well, and this needs to also be quietened. A restless, tired or sick body will adversely affect our mind, and equally our mind affects our body…. they are not separate in any way even though many of us live so much in our heads, as the expression goes. So taking time to build on our “stillness” is somthing we should show gratitude for. Thankyou for joining 🙏🏽

“New Year, New me” …..
At the Harmony hub we don’t follow this motto, every day is a chance to make those positive changes you have always wanted to. Winter is a time for rest and slowing down ready to hit our goals in the spring 🤎

Being fit and healthy is not only about our body, but also our mind and our emotional regulation, and this is where yoga comes in. I believe that yoga is for our whole selves, not just for looking good. If you want to start with those changes, whether that be tomorrow or in 6 months, we will always be here to start your journey with you 🙏🏽
