This Wednesday at Archway Recovery, something incredible is happening. Thanks to the kindness of Pen Y Bryn Outdoor Learning, we’ve been offered FREE outdoor activity days for our community — a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience adventure, freedom, and connection.

🙌 We are also thrilled to welcome Chris McClellan, the driving force behind Pen Y Bryn Outdoor Learning. With a lifelong passion for the outdoors — from climbing in the Peak District as a boy, to adventures across Wales, the Lake District, The Alps, and even East Africa — Chris brings huge experience and a heart for helping people grow through adventure. He has led thousands through outdoor programmes, managed the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and is a Gold Eryri Ambassador for Snowdonia. Chris’s mission is simple: to inspire confidence, connection, and joy through the great outdoors.

🏔️ What’s on offer?
✔ Wild swimming 🌊
✔ Mountain walking & climbing ⛰️
✔ Paddle boarding 🏄

🧡 Facing fears.
💜 Building confidence.
🧡 Finding joy.

✨ ADDICTION IN NORTH WALES — THE REALITY, THE HOPE ✨

Addiction is not just a private struggle — it’s a crisis affecting families, friends, and whole communities.

📊 Over the last 10 years, drug deaths in Wales have risen by 52%.
📊 In just the past year, they climbed another 12%.
📊 Across England & Wales, 5,448 people died from drug poisoning in 2023 — the highest ever recorded, and double the rate in 2012.
📊 In Wales, there were 377 overdose deaths in 2023 — an age-standardised rate of 129.2 deaths per million people, up from 318 deaths (109.6 per million) in 2022.

💔 The Human Toll Behind the Stats
• Men are dying at more than twice the rate of women.
• The highest-risk age group is 40–49 years old.
• In Wales, the median age of a drug misuse death is just 42.

🍷 Alcohol: In 2023, there were 683 alcohol-related deaths in Wales, including 562 deaths wholly caused by alcohol (like liver disease).

💉 Ketamine: Once seen as a party drug, it is now claiming lives. In 2023, ketamine was linked to 37 deaths across England & Wales — a 650% rise since 2015, almost one death every week. More than 3,600 adults entered treatment for ketamine misuse last year — eight times higher than a decade ago.

Behind every number is a name. A face. A family. A future that mattered.

💜🧡Why Archway Exists

We opened the doors of Archway Recovery 18 months ago. Since then, nearly 300 people from our community have stepped inside — looking for hope, connection, and a safe space where they will not be judged.

And it’s not just those battling addiction — we also walk alongside friends, family, and loved ones, who often carry silent pain of their own.

At Archway Recovery, everything we do is built on love and lived experience. We are not paid staff — we are volunteers. People who have walked the road of addiction ourselves — and now give our time freely to help others.

We do this with one simple desire: to prevent others from suffering in silence, to walk alongside those still struggling, and to show by our lives that recovery is possible.

We believe recovery begins with connection:
🌱 A place to talk.
🌱 A place to learn.
🌱 A place to be heard, understood, and supported.

🙌 To the One Reading This

If you are struggling with alcohol, ketamine, drugs, gambling, or anything that feels too heavy to carry alone — hear this:

👉 You are not alone. 💜
👉 You are not beyond help. 🧡
👉 Your story is not over. ✨

We know recovery works — not because of theory, but because we’ve lived it. We are proof that change is possible.

💜 Archway Recovery is a free, non-profit service.
🧡 No referral is needed.
💜 Everyone is welcome, always.

Don’t suffer in silence. Please reach out today. One of our team will be here to listen, to guide, and to walk alongside you — whether you’re struggling yourself, or supporting someone you love.

Archway Recovery — because recovery is real, hope is alive, and no one should walk this journey alone.

Together, we can recover 🙏💜

💜 ARCHWAY RECOVERY PRESENTS: CONNECTION NIGHT 💜
Hope starts with a conversation.

This Wednesday, we’re giving the whole second half of the evening to something much needed — time together.

Last time we did this it was such a success, and we’ve realised how important it is not to rush what matters most. Too often our breaks get cut short — ten minutes isn’t always enough to stretch your legs, have a bathroom break, top-up your brew, and still have those powerful conversations that bring unity and honesty.

So this week, there’s no second session, no testimony, no activity, no pressure. Just space to talk, connect, communicate, and let the conversations flow in their own time.

✨ What to expect:
• Doors open 4:30 PM – refreshments ready, kettle on, snacks out.
• First session (5–6 PM): Check-in group – time to share where you’re at and be heard.
• Second half: Connection Evening – extended time to be with one another, building unity and hope without the rush.

Whether you’re brand new, struggling, in recovery, or supporting a loved one — this is for you. Archway Recovery is a safe, welcoming space with no judgement and no pressure. You don’t need to have it all together. Just come as you are.

📍 The Salvation Army, Windsor Street, Rhyl
🕔 Every Wednesday, 5–7 PM (doors open 4:30)

👉 And if you’ve never been before, but have been thinking about it — maybe feeling fearful, nervous, or anxious — this is the perfect night to come. It’ll be laid-back, relaxed, and pressure-free. Just time to meet the Archway team, connect with others in recovery, and see what our recovery community is all about.

Come with an open heart, leave with a little more hope 💜

Together, we can recover 💜

🌹 International Overdose Awareness Day – August 31st 🌹

Today we pause to remember every precious life lost to overdose.
We stand with families and friends in our community who carry the weight of that loss. 💜

Overdose is preventable. There is no shame, no stigma — only love, compassion, and the call to keep raising awareness and saving lives.

If today brings up pain or memories, please know you are not alone. Our team at Archway Recovery is here for you — message this page, reach us on Messenger, or email us anytime. 🧡

Always loved. Never forgotten.

🌟 This Wednesday: A Doctor’s Story — From Co***ne Addiction to Recovery, From Despair to Hope 🌟

Addiction does not discriminate. Behind every profession or title can be a human being in pain 💔, carrying a secret burden. Like a tornado 🌪️, it tears through lives: destroying stability, straining relationships, and leaving people lost in the wreckage.

This week at Archway Recovery, an act of honesty and courage will take place ✨. A doctor will share their story with raw honesty:
• 💔 The crushing weight of co***ne addiction
• 🙏 The breaking point of surrender
• 💜 The miracle of living in recovery today

Several months ago, this individual reached out to us in complete despair — a moment of raw surrender that took extraordinary courage. Behind the professional title was simply a person saying: “I can’t do this on my own anymore.”

At first, Archway supported them with private, one-to-one home visits 🏠 — confidential and safe, when groups felt impossible. Slowly, as trust grew, they stepped into our Wednesday meetings 🤝, where connection, compassion, and encouragement showed them a new way forward.

Here, they discovered what every addict must come to know: addiction is not a failure of willpower, but an illness of mind and body 🧠💔. Medical knowledge alone could not cure it — but fellowship, support, and surrender could begin the healing.

Today, this healthcare professional is celebrating over 120 days in sobriety 🎉. What was once crisis in health, family, and career is now turning into stability, possibility, and hope.

And now, in an act of great bravery 💪, they will share their testimony — what life was like, what happened, and what life is like now.

This is something our community has never heard before:
A doctor. A co***ne addiction. A testimony of surrender, courage, and hope. 🌟

If you or someone you love is struggling, come and hear this real-life story 💌.
There is a solution. Recovery is possible. Change is possible. People do get well. 🙌

🗓 Wednesday 27th August
🕔 5–7 PM (doors open 4:30 PM for tea, coffee & connection ☕🍪)
📍 The Salvation Army, Rhyl Windsor Street

This testimony will be raw and humbling — but above all, living proof that recovery is real, and that nobody is beyond hope. 🫶💜

🧡 “In memory of Sean Hall — a life loved, a legacy of kindness, a gift that will change lives.” 🌟

💙 A Heartfelt Thank You in Memory of Sean Hall 💙

This month, the family of Sean Hall — a much-loved husband, dad, brother, uncle, and local lad from our area 🌹 — laid him to rest. Sean was known by many and beloved by all who crossed his path. In the rawness of their grief, while carrying the deep pain of loss, his family still thought of others. At Sean’s funeral, where the family had requested no flowers but instead donations towards Archway Recovery, £284 was collected. Last Wednesday his family came in person to bring this gift made in his honour.

We are humbled beyond words. To give in the middle of heartbreak, to reach outward in kindness while mourning their own loss — that is a powerful act of love. It shows the kind of man Sean was, and the kind of family he raised. Sean cared deeply about people, especially those still battling addiction, and we know he would have wanted to help all he could.

We feel the sadness of losing Sean 🕊️ but also the beauty of his name living on through this gift. Every single pound will go towards carrying the torch of recovery — expanding Archway, securing a new premises, and making sure we remain a lifeline for people still suffering in silence. We will do our utmost to keep reaching out, guiding, supporting, and offering a new way of life to those who feel there is no way forward.

We are forever grateful. Forever moved. Forever committed to honouring Sean’s memory 🌟 by putting this donation to work where it matters most — in the lives of those still searching for hope.

And to Sean’s family — please know that your love has not only honoured his life, but has also lit a path for others. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you. You will always have a place in the Archway family, and Sean’s legacy will live on through the hope his memory continues to give. 🧡💜

Come in early and settle down with a hot drink or soft drink of your choice — tea, coffee, water, hot chocolate, or fizzy pop.

🙌 5:00 PM – Welcome

Our Archway team will kick things off with a warm welcome.
We’ll share who we are, what we do, and go over a few simple group guidelines and health & safety bits.

💬 5:15 PM – Recovery Check-In

The heart of Archway!
We go around the room for a short introduction (just a couple of minutes each):
• Who you are
• Why you’re here
• How you’re doing
• (If you like) your sobriety date

✨ No pressure to speak — you can just sit, listen, and take it in.
We also have a private room next door if you’d prefer to chat with a team member confidentially.

This is often the most powerful part of the evening — hearing people from all walks of life share openly about recovery. We welcome people in recovery from alcohol, drugs, and gambling, as well as friends, families, and loved ones. Sometimes local services join too.

Grab a refill, pop outside for a smoke or v**e, or just enjoy a chat with others. Fellowship happens naturally here.

🌟 6:15 PM – Main Session

Each week is different, on a four-week rotation:
1️⃣ Testimonies – powerful real-life stories of recovery.
2️⃣ Educational Sessions – practical tools and lived experience.
3️⃣ Activities – discussions, group interaction, connection.
4️⃣ Friends & Family – support for those affected by addiction.

✝️ Who We Are

Archway Recovery is peer-led, non-judgemental, and open-door. ✝️ Who We Are

Archway Recovery is an open-door, peer-led, lived-experience recovery group.
We’re laid-back, non-judgemental, and there’s no referral needed to join us. We welcome everyone, regardless of background. The only requirement we have — for safeguarding reasons — is that all attendees must be over the age of 18.

Our group is run by people in recovery themselves: recovered addicts, alcoholics, and gamblers who are living proof that recovery is possible. We’re here to walk alongside anyone struggling with addiction — offering support, guidance, and real-life experience.

But it’s not just for those in recovery. We’re here for friends, families, and loved ones too, because we know addiction affects everyone around it. 💜

Archway is built on Christian principles of honesty, hope, and love, but there’s no faith required to attend. Whether you’re exploring recovery for the first time, many years sober, or simply looking for community and understanding 🙏 you are welcome here💜

💚 Whether you’re brand new to recovery, many years in, or walking alongside someone who struggles — you are welcome here.

💔 FAMILIES BREAK TOO: A MOTHER’S STORY OF ADDICTION, HEARTACHE & HOPE 💔

👩‍👦 Behind every addict, there is someone who loves them more than life itself. 💔 Behind every person battling addiction, there is a family on their knees — mothers lying awake through the night, partners breaking under the silence, children carrying confusion they can’t put into words. Addiction doesn’t just chain the one using — it shatters every heart that loves them. 💜🧡

And this is where we meet Yvette. A mother who lived it. A woman who carried the weight of fear, heartbreak, and unanswered prayers — yet never gave up on her son. 🌹
Someone who carries the sleepless nights.
Someone who holds on when everything falls apart.

That someone was Yvette. 💜🧡

🌸 Yvette isn’t standing before us as someone with a title or a platform. She comes as a mother, an ordinary woman with extraordinary love, who walked through pain most of us pray we’ll never know. And yet, through her honesty and courage, she carries a light that reaches every family still waiting for hope. 🌸

💔 Yvette knows what it means to watch a child disappear into alcohol and co***ne.
She knows the lies, the chaos, the fear that never lets go.
She knows the shame that whispers, “What did I do wrong?”
And she knows the heartbreak of asking, night after night, “Will my son even survive this?”

⚔️ But she also knows what it means to never give up.
She carried love when it tore her apart.
She carried hope when everything looked hopeless.
And she fought for her son — even when he couldn’t fight for himself.

✨ And then came recovery.
Her son walked into a room full of people who understood.
He found connection, guidance, support, understanding — and a solution that changed everything.

And with him, Yvette found healing too.

🌟 Today, her son is 7 months clean and sober. Their home has laughter again. Their family has hope again. And Yvette has a testimony that will touch every parent, every partner, every loved one who knows the silent agony of addiction. 💜🧡

🔥 Come and meet Yvette.
🔥 Come and hear her story.
🔥 Come and see that recovery is real — not just for the addict, but for the family too.

🌷 And as Yvette’s story shows us: a mother’s love, no matter how battered and bruised, can carry a family through the darkest storms.
Her journey is living proof that hope is never lost, even when everything feels broken.
If light could return to her family, it can return to yours too.
Together, we can recover. 💜🧡

☀️ It’s Hot… But So Are We! (…in a “still doing recovery” kind of way 😉)

We know this afternoon’s heat is making our beautiful coast look very tempting for a beach day… and trust us, if recovery sessions worked on deckchairs with an ice cream in hand, we’d be there already! 🏖🍦

But we’re still going ahead with our Archway Recovery session today — because connection, support, and a few laughs are good for the soul (even in a heatwave).

We’ve stocked up on cool soft drinks, plenty of water, and yes… our trusty indoor fans will be working overtime to keep us from melting. 🌀💦

So don’t let the sunshine talk you out of it — come as you are, shorts, sunglasses and all, and let’s make this a summer session to remember.

See you there… no suncream required! 😎☀️

🌟 Educational Session with the Harm Reduction Team & BBV Nurse – This Wednesday at Archway Recovery🧡💜
📅 Wednesday 13th August | 🕔 5 PM – 7 PM
📍 The Salvation Army, Rhyl
☕ Doors open from 4:30 PM for refreshments and connection

Addiction can pull people into depths and darkness that are hard to imagine — stripping away health, hope, and connection. It doesn’t discriminate. It can touch any family, any friend group, any street. But here at Archway, we believe everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and understood. Recovery is possible, and no one should have to face the journey alone.

That’s why we’re proud to host this week’s special educational session with two dedicated professionals working hands-on within local substance misuse services, helping people find safety, stability, and a path forward:

👩‍⚕ Nelly – Specialist from the local Harm Reduction Team, dedicated to reducing the risks associated with substance use and helping people make safer choices. Nelly will also share why the Harm Reduction Team was set up and the passion that drives their outreach work in our community — meeting people where they are, offering practical steps to reduce harm, protect health, and build trust that can open the door to recovery.

👩‍⚕ Ula – Experienced Nurse from the local Blood Borne Virus (BBV) Team, providing expert care, early detection, and treatment guidance for conditions like hepatitis and HIV. BBV services are vital because they save lives, prevent the spread of infection, and ensure people get the treatment and support they need — often before symptoms even appear.

What to expect on the day:
🔍 A clear, informative overview of the vital services they deliver in the community
📍 Step-by-step guidance on how to access support, treatment, and follow-up care
💬 An open, welcoming atmosphere where no question is too big or too small
🤝 Real conversations that encourage honesty without fear of judgement
😂 A few laughs along the way — because learning works best when we feel at ease
💡 Practical takeaways you can apply for yourself or share with someone you care about

This isn’t just an information session — it’s an opportunity to raise awareness, replace stigma with understanding, and discover the life-saving help available right here in our community.

This event is free and open to everyone — whether you’re seeking help, supporting a loved one, working in health or social care, or simply curious to learn more. No booking needed, just walk in. Your seat is waiting.

If you’d like more information, you can contact us by email Archway.recovery.rhyl@gmail.com

or send us a Facebook Messenger message. 💌

We can also arrange one-to-one sessions and outreach if that’s what you or someone you know needs.

From all of us at Archway, thank you for letting us be part of your journey. It’s a privilege to walk alongside you, to listen, and to learn together. We look forward to sharing this time with you — over a brew, a chat, and the hope of better days ahead.

Together, we can recover 💜🧡🙏
