Second Spring -
Traditional Chinese medicine always describes stages of change poetically.
-
But, I think for some of us we can agree it doesn't feel that poetic -or spring like.
-
For some of us navigating through the stages it can be confusing and over whelming.
-
I knew technically what menopause was, but I wasn't prepared for how it would feel.
-
We reach natural menopause between the ages of 45 -55 (average around 51) by menopause I mean no period for 12 months.
Natural menopause - without medical or surgical treatments.
-
Perimenopause - a time of changes, irregular periods, shorten or lengthen, heavier or lighter. Skin changes, mood, sleep, energy, concentration, libido, it can all shift.
That's why we need better support and information.
-
As an Acupuncturist treating women through all stages of hormonal change, I've seen firsthand how much relief can be achieved.
-
Acupuncture helps the nervous system supporting you while easing symptoms:
🔥 Hot flashes & Night sweats.
💤 Insomnia & restless legs.
😡 Rage, irritability & Anxiety.
🌿 Hormonal dysregulation.
-
Yes, I'm biased, but I do have research to back it all up.
The BMJ OPEN_ found acupuncture to significantly reduce menopausal symptoms in just 5 weeks with continued improvements after treatment ended. Lund.K et.al

From Tiny Needles to Tiny Toes… 💕
-
I received the most wonderful message — their baby girl arrived safely at the end of May.
-
This family has walked a path few see fully — one marked by heartbreak, hope, and extraordinary courage. When they were told IVF was their only option, they found me.
-
We worked together, step by step, through the quiet moments and the tireless hope.
-
And now, a new chapter begins.
-
From those tiny Needles ( yes, they are small) to beautiful tiny toes.
-
Congratulations to you all.
Thank you for letting me be part of something so special.

This week, I wanted to talk more about perimenopause—because I see so many women in clinic who need support not only with the physical symptoms this transition can bring, but also the emotional rollercoaster that often comes with it.
-
Both physical and emotional aspects can feel overwhelming and difficult to navigate. You’re not imagining it, and you’re definitely not alone.
-
Let’s dive in.
-
You might be noticing some subtle (or not-so-subtle) changes:
-
🌿 Your period is different—is it suddenly heavier, shorter, longer, or just... off?
🌿 Your mood feels unpredictable.
🌿 You feel foggy, flat, not quite like yourself.
🌿 Maybe you’ve started getting night sweats or hot flashes.
🌿 Your sleep is disrupted, and you’re not sure why.
🌿 Libido? What libido?
-
I remember being told I was too young to be perimenopausal—and honestly? I felt full-blown, unapologetic WTF-style rage (that was a clue).
But deep down, I knew.
I suspected I was transitioning.
And now I know: I wasn’t too young at all.
-
Natural perimenopause transition can start as early as your mid-to-late 30s. For most, it begins in the 40s, with menopause itself typically arriving between 50 and 55. So no, you’re not too young, either.
-
If something feels off, trust your body.
You don’t need to wait until things get “bad enough.”
You deserve support now.
-
More on this all week. 💛

Does Acupuncture hurt?
-
You'd think needles = pain, right?
Totally fair assumption, but actually, that's not the case.
-
When you're treated by a skilled, well trained acupuncturist, pain isn't something you should experience.
-
What you may feel is sensation, and that's a very different thing.
-
It may be strong in sensation, dull pressure, a little warmth, ache around the area, or ( as I often hear) "a weird feeling", you can't quite explain.
All of which is completely normal, and a sign your body is responding. You may even hear the odd gurgle in the stomach area. This is your body regulating.
-

And let's not forget the iconic Acu-nap
Yes! It's real. Many a client has dropped off into a snooze mid treatment .
-
Still not sure? Come and try it for yourself.

When someone tells me they're ready to start trying to get pregnant :
I suggest giving yourself at least 3 months if you can.
-
Time to prepare, and here are a few reasons why:
🌿 It takes around 90 days for an egg to fully mature - things like sleep, food, stress, and illness can impact your future cycle.
🌿Working with me for 3 cycles gives us space to work on things like cycle regularity, hormone balance, and any tests or investigations that might be needed for you and your partner.
🌿 It can also give you time to prepare both physically and mentally.
Trying to conceive can be a special and hopeful time, but it can also be a time of stress, uncertainty, filled with many emotions.
That's why giving yourself at least 3 months to prepare can make a difference.
-
Are you in that pre-TTC phase?
Heard acupuncture helps, but not sure how.
Feel free to get in touch - happy to answer any questions.

Is Acupuncture Safe during Pregnancy?
-
YES. When provided by a qualified acupuncturist with at least three years of training.
-
As a fertility-trained acupuncturist, I will often recommend acupuncture up to at least 12 weeks, as early pregnancy can bring both joy and uncertainty.
-
Many first time parents experience anxiety, and acupuncture helps support relaxation, ease morning sickness, and other early pregnancy related symptoms.
-
More than anything, I offer a space to acknowledge your pregnancy, in those early stages and how you are feeling.

💊 Things the Pill doesn't Do!💊
I hear a lot of questions about the Pill and other forms of contraception, let's clear up some common Myths.
-
❣️It doesn't give you a real period - that's a withdrawal from the synthetic hormones.
-
❣️It doesn't protect your Eggs - your egg count will still naturally decline as you get older.
-
❣️ It doesn't necessarily balance your hormones. It stops natural hormone cycles by shutting down ovulation. it replaces your natural hormones, oestrogen and progesterone with synthetic versions, which may manage symptoms, but it's not the same as a natural cycle.
-
❣️For some, ovulation returns quickly post Pill, but for others it can take months (or longer) for your natural hormones to regulate. It's something to be aware of if you're planning to conceive in the future.
-
⚠️ This isn't about you telling you not to take the Pill. Contraception is your choice. But, making an informed decision with all the right knowledge can be helpful.
