We have had a very exciting week in EYFS. We started the week with an amazing yoga session with Karma Kids. 🧘
On Tuesday we watched the fantastic BBC Philharmonic orchestra performance. It was full of music, rhythm and storytelling, a truly wonderful experience 🎶

What a busy and exciting week we’ve had at Silverdale!
We began the week with a wonderful, spring-themed yoga session, where we stretched and moved our bodies like trees, plants, lambs and frogs. We also enjoyed a lovely Easter stay-and-play session together.
We’ve continued our learning about vehicles and especially loved reading ‘5 Little Trains’.

What a fun and busy week we have had in Ribblesdale! We started the week with a lovely spring-themed yoga session, which all the children thoroughly enjoyed.
We have been learning about Easter and the theme of new life. The children listened to simple versions of the Easter story and have been exploring why Easter is special, as well as how people celebrate it. They were especially excited to watch live lambing on Mrs Beadle’s farm.
In maths, we have begun exploring mass. The children have been introduced to balance scales and have been using vocabulary such as heavy, light, heavier, and lighter.

During our forest school session, we focused on the book That’s Not My Stick. The children had great fun searching for the perfect stick and using their imaginations to transform it into all sorts of things.

In Swaledale & Malhamdale we started the week with our Egg Drop Challenge. We experimented with different creations last week and consolidated the successful ones into our final design. We had the final experiment and both the Swaledale & Malhamdale eggs survived the final drop! 🥚
We have continued our Literacy Tree text ‘And Tango Makes Three’. We have talked about the different types of families, that all families are about love and belonging. This includes our RMS family 💕
We have been discussing all the things we love about Richmond. We have included all the things we love about Richmond into our writing about why Richmond should be the city of culture.
In maths we have started looking at 3D shapes. We have discovered 3D shapes are everywhere and have found so many around the classroom.

This week in Silverdale, we have been exploring weather and seasons. We loved reading Cyril the Lonely Cloud and Tree.

We also enjoyed investigating different flowers, using our senses to smell and touch them. Our senses were put to work again when exploring the cloud dough—feeling its sticky texture and enjoying the sweet strawberry scent.

The highlight of the week was spending time outside in the wind. The children loved watching leaves swirl around the outdoor area and had so much fun holding leaves up high and letting them drift away. They even found objects to ‘hold on to’ so they wouldn’t be blown away themselves, which had everyone giggling. It was truly heartwarming to see them engaged, playing, and laughing together.

This week in Ribblesdale we have continued enjoying more wonderful stories by Julie Donaldson, including Squash and a Squeeze, Superworm, and Stick Man. The children loved joining in with the repeated phrases and talking about their favourite characters.

As part of Science Week, the children have taken part in several exciting experiments. Inspired by Squash and a Squeeze, they explored and tested different materials to build a new house for the old lady. They also loved the Superworm magnetic investigation, they carried out a simple volcano experiment, and completed a “drop, fall roll” challenge. The children asked lots of thoughtful questions throughout the activities, demonstrating great curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.

We also had a fantastic Stick Man themed Forest School session. The children had great fun searching for sticks in the woodland area and then used them to create their very own Stick Men.

In Maths, we have been exploring the height and length of different objects. The children have been using fantastic new vocabulary such as long/longer, short/shorter, and tall/taller when comparing objects.

In Malhamdale and Swaledale we were very excited to discover a zoo in our classrooms this week. We have been finding out about animal habitats, we used this to help us sort our animals into their new zoo enclosures. On Tuesday our penguins arrived for their new enclosure along with our new story ‘And Tango makes Three’.

As part of science week we have been taking part in the school egg drop competition. We have been discussing gravity and what materials we think will keep our egg safe. We are looking forward to testing out our ideas.

This week at Silverdale, we have been learning about different types of transport. We particularly enjoyed reading Topsy and Tim Go on an Aeroplane and Things That Go, which sparked lots of discussion about how people travel.

Outside, we had great fun exploring with water. The children loved filling and emptying containers, and we experimented with mixing different coloured water together to see what new colours we could create.

Thursday was definitely the highlight of our week as we celebrated World Book Day. The children had a wonderful time dressing up as their favourite characters and exploring much-loved stories such as The Gruffalo and The Tiger Who Came to Tea. We especially enjoyed making tea for the tiger and baking some delicious “Gruffalo crumble.” 🐯📚✈️

This week in Ribblesdale, we have been continuing our exciting learning inspired by the wonderful stories of Julia Donaldson. We have enjoyed reading The Smartest Giant in Town, The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child and Monkey Puzzle.

During our literacy sessions, we have been focusing on identifying rhyming words and exploring character descriptions. The children listened carefully to the rich descriptive language in The Gruffalo and used it to help them create detailed drawings. They confidently included key features such as orange eyes, purple prickles and black tongues, showing a fantastic understanding of the text.

We have also enjoyed learning about the Hindu festival Holi also known as the festival of colour. The children learnt how people celebrate this festival all around the world. The children took part in lots of colourful activities including ribbon dancing, playing with the coloured stepping stones, spaying colourful water whilst outdoors and playing with colourful balloons.

Our Forest School session was a real highlight of the week. The children thoroughly enjoyed going on a Gruffalo hunt around the forest area, searching for hidden animals and working together as a team. We also collected sticks and natural materials to build our very own giant Gruffalo, encouraging creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills.

In Maths, we have been learning about the number 6. The children have practised counting out six objects accurately and have been introduced to the 10 frame.

What an exciting week in Reception! We have continued exploring healthy eating with our Literacy Tree text: I will never eat a tomato. We are making a healthy fruit salad next week, after designing it this week. We have definitely expanded the foods we like by trying different ones! We rehearsed lots of sentences using adjectives to describe the real fruit and vegetables but then also imagined what they could be instead! Our favourites were a crunchy orange superfast rocket, green fairy trees, green drops from elfland. Can you guess what vegetables we are describing?

We linked this to our staying safe theme with discussions about handwashing and using cutlery sensibly! Also, remembering to brush our teeth.

We have explored colour mixing with water colours, using them to creat smaller scale pictures with more detail. We will use this skilll for our self portraits!

In our mathematics, we have been investigating 9 snd 10… looking at different representations and building them using our part part whole model.

Our World Book Day was a lovely celebration of reading as a hobby. We looked at each other’s books and discussed the characters and settings. It have us lots of ideas for writing a book about us!

Have a lovely weekend everyone! ❤️

This week at Silverdale, we have been exploring all things safari! 🦁🌿

We have loved sharing the stories Safari Stomp, We’re Going on a Lion Hunt and our absolute favourite, Dear Zoo. The children have really enjoyed joining in with the repeated phrases and talking about all the different animals.

Our creative area has been very busy too! We had lots of fun making lions using sponges and paint, creating fantastic manes and practising our printing skills.

Outside, we embraced the mess and had a wonderful time exploring different textures and experimenting with colour mixing. There has been lots of curiosity, creativity and hands-on learning throughout the week.

What a fantastic safari adventure we’ve had! 🌍✨

This week in Ribblesdale, we have thoroughly enjoyed reading the wonderful stories Sharing a Shell, Tiddler and The Singing Mermaid by Julia Donaldson.

Through these stories, the children have been exploring the different characters and thinking carefully about how they might feel at various points in the story. We have had some thoughtful discussions about sharing and how our own actions can make our friends feel happy, sad, included or left out.

We have also explored the different settings within the stories, particularly the underwater and seaside scenes, and linked this to our art focus for the week. The children enjoyed using their creativity to represent these environments in their own artwork.

In maths, we have been consolidating our learning on counting out up to five objects accurately, recognising numerals to five and subitising (instantly recognising quantities) up to five. The children are becoming increasingly confident with these key early number skills. Well done, Ribblesdale!

In Swaledale and Malhamdale we have been looking at healthy eating with our new Literacy Tree text ‘I will not ever never eat a tomato’. We started the week talking about fruits and vegetables, we discussed what we do and don’t like. We tried some fruit and vegetables then used adjectives to describe how they tasted or felt. Then we used our amazing phonics knowledge to write about them.

In PSHE this week we looked at how to keep our teeth healthy. We are brushing our teeth 🦷 everyday at school and twice at home to keep our teeth sparkling white. We talked about food and drink items that are good for our teeth and those that we should have occasionally.

This week in Silverdale, we’ve been very busy celebrating Valentine’s Day, Pancake Day, and Chinese New Year!

Our favourite stories were Mr Wolf’s Pancakes and There’s a Dragon in My School, which the children really enjoyed.
We loved trying some yummy fortune cookies and pancakes, and there were lots of smiles all around.
The children were also very excited to use our new tunnel and did a fantastic job taking turns on the obstacle course — well done everyone! 😊

This week in Ribblesdale we have enjoyed a range of exciting celebrations, including Valentine’s Day, Chinese New Year and Pancake Day.

As part of our music learning, the children explored tapping out simple, repeated rhythms. We also learned how sounds and movements can be changed, for example by being louder or quieter, and faster or slower. The children loved participating in our own music parade!
In maths, we have continued our learning about the number 5. The children used Numicon to explore and represent different compositions of 5, developing their understanding through hands-on activities.

In Swaledale and Malhamdale we continued our Literacy Tree text Stanley’s Stick. Stanley had taken his stick to the beach so we helped Stanley come up with some ideas of how he could use the stick at the beach 🏖️ The most popular idea was to use the stick to make a flag for a sandcastle. We also looked at the Lunar new year story, the children were excited to find out which animal their birth year was and all had a go at writing a list of animals in the story! We have also been writing valentines carfs for our friends and family.
In Geography we have been looking at maps, from the world down to maps of Richmond and RMS. We all drew our own maps of the school playgroup, lots of the children included our opal play areas in their designs!

This week at Silverdale, we’ve enjoyed exploring a different nursery rhyme each day🎶. On Wednesday, we followed the children’s interests and created a Digger Land activity, which they thoroughly enjoyed🚜.
The children especially loved building their own ramp for the cars to race down and knock over the towers at the bottom.

Our favourite rhyme of the week was Five Little Ducks 🦆, where the children enjoyed using the story logs as we sang the song, taking one duck away each time and counting how many were left.

In Ribblesdale this week, we have shared the stories When Grandad Was a Penguin, Toby and the Tricky Things, The Growing Story and Peepo!. These stories have supported the children’s understanding of growth and how things change over time.

Our role-play area has been transformed into a baby clinic, where the children have been busy playing, exploring and caring for babies through imaginative play.

As part of our history learning (past and present), we explored popular toys from the past and compared them with toys children play with today. The children even had a go at making their own old-fashioned toys, including a cup and ball game and a simple spinning top.

In maths, we have moved learning on by introducing the number 5. As part of this, the children were excited to learn about a five-sided shape – the pentagon!

In Swaledale and Malhamdale we have started our new Literacy Tree text ‘Stanley’s Stick’. We discovered a stick with the message ‘I’m a magic stick and I can be whatever you want me to be’. We talked about what we would like our magic stick to be and had a go at writing about it on our books. The children had some fantastic ideas including a T-Rex, rocket, banana, person and a bunny.

We have continued looking at traditional toys in our history sessions. The children have enjoyed sharing photos of old toys they have at home which belong to their parents or grandparents. We have been using materials they are made of to help us decide if they are old or modern toys.

This week in Silverdale, we have been enjoying reading traditional fairy tales, with The Gingerbread Man being our favourite.

We especially loved breaking apart the frozen gingerbread man and decorating our own gingerbread men, which we then enjoyed at snack time.

The children have also been very busy with their matching activities this week, particularly focusing on recognising and matching colours.

Ribblesdale have been enjoying the lovely, rhyming Hairy Maclary stories this week. This inspired lots of discussions about our own pets, which the children were very excited to share.

They have thoroughly enjoyed playing in our very own Vet role-play area, taking on different roles and caring for the animals.

In Maths, we have continued learning all about the number 4 by exploring the composition of four (the different ways we can make 4).

In Swaledale and Malhamdale we have continued our Literacy Tree text ‘Little Red’. We have been changing the story by planning our own characters and have started using adjectibes to describe them.

In maths we have been looking at capacity and have enjoyed exploring this practically using sand. In History we are looking at traditional toys. We enjoyed exploring some traditional toys from Preston Park museum. We have been talking about materials used in traditional toys. We loved looking at the similarities and differences between these traditional toys and the ones the children play with now.
