Residents at Abbey View Care Home recently enjoyed a very special festive activity as Valerie Singleton OBE, famed Blue Peter presenter, led a Christmas Wrapping Masterclass.

Valerie, who has spent the past year volunteering at the home with presentations about her travels and favourite stories, brought her signature creativity and love of beautifully wrapped gifts to the activity. Residents, including Janet, were delighted to work alongside her, sharing conversation, laughter, and festive cheer.

Thanks to Valerie, our Christmas gifts were wrapped with extra care, creativity, and a touch of magic!

There’s still time to visit our tree at this year’s Christmas Tree Festival at Highcliffe Castle🎄

We’re proud to be taking part alongside so many local businesses, charities, and community groups. A heartfelt thank you to the residents and team at Avon Reach Care Home, who decorated the tree with such care and creativity.

We’re also looking forward to seeing their residents’ choir performing at the Castle this Friday from 5.45pm to 7.45pm — a wonderful moment of festive music in a truly special setting. Do come along and say hello!

Kind-hearted residents and team members at The Aldbury recently came together to support families in need this Christmas 🎄

Five residents and three colleagues visited the Poole Food Bank+ hub to deliver donations. Adding a touch of festive cheer to the occasion, the group travelled in true seasonal style — dressed as Christmas elves.

After handing over the donations, residents and hosts shared tea, homemade cakes and mince pies, taking time to talk about the food bank’s vital work supporting around 100 local families each month.

Resident Terry reflected, “We were pleased to hear how successful the food bank is and how many families it helps” ✨

Residents from five of our New Forest homes, alongside some of their relatives, began the festive season in fine voice, performing as part of a 50-strong choir to the delight of visitors at St Thomas, Lymington, as part of the church’s annual Christmas Tree Festival.

Further relatives and members of our team were there to support the day, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The choir was conducted by our very own Music and Arts Partner, Fiona.

Pam, a resident at Linden House, said:
“It makes you feel so warm and Christmassy, and I do love seeing all the trees.”

Alongside their Christmas favourites, the choir also helped decorate five trees, each donated by one of the participating care homes, in support of the church’s charity, Friends of St Thomas.

For the 4th year in a row, Colten Care residents, family, visitors and staff have generously donated gifts of chocolate to less fortunate children this Christmas, supporting the Chocolate Elf campaign https://www.facebook.com/groups/TheChocolateElf/

With the help of all our Hampshire homes and our Support Centre, Colten Care have this year donated a whopping 232 selections boxes and calendars. With the teams donating more and more each year, it’s wonderful to be able to help.

We’re proud to be supporting a local 12-hour Spinathon, championed by instructors Cat and Clare, at West Hants Club in aid of Dorset Mind — a charity working to ensure conversations around mental health are met with understanding, openness, and genuine support.

Adding to the spirit of the day, Colten Care's own Marketing Director, Barney, will be completing part of the challenge in full Bananaman costume — bringing a smile to the side-lines while championing a vital cause.

We wish everyone taking part a fantastic day!

Across Colten Care, we marked our own Men’s Health Week with moments of connection, conversation, and reflection.

From gentle wellbeing activities to informal catch-ups over coffee, the week offered time to focus on the physical and emotional health of the men who live and work with us.

Additionally, with some of our team members taking part in Movember, colleagues were keen to join in the fun.

Colleagues across our teams embraced the week, using it as a reminder of the importance of checking in with ourselves and with one another.

While Men’s Health Week lasts just seven days, the message endures: supporting wellbeing is an everyday commitment, woven into life in each of our homes.

Residents at our Brockenhurst home, Woodpeckers, recently welcomed friends, families, and the local community to their fifth annual Festival of Light ✨

The garden came alive with colourful lanterns, stained glass-style stars, and candle-lit pumpkins — all decorated by residents during arts and crafts sessions. Around 130 visitors enjoyed the sparkling displays, raising over £350 for Olivia Inspires, a charity supporting young people in the New Forest.

Companionship Team Leader Jane said, “Once again the festival provided an uplifting and sustainable alternative to traditional fireworks events. Our residents played a key role in creating every display using reused, repurposed, and natural materials.”

Resident Margaret added, “We surpassed previous years’ festivals. I’m not sure how we can top it next year!”
