FEELING HOT -
Try some of the following ideas to help keep cool during the heat, connecting with the beautiful healing practises of Ayurveda & Yoga.
SHEETALI BREATH - Sheetali is the cooling breath.
Sit in sukhasana (crossed legged position), stick your tongue out and curl both sides upwards so that your tongue forms a tube. (If your tongue doesn't roll, bring your front teeth together open your lips and inhale) Inhale through the curled tongue, close the mouth and pause for a minute, and then exhale through the nose. Repeat this 7 times.
YOGA - focus on cooling, cleansing, flowing, and healing. Forward bends are very beneficial to balance pitta (fire energy) as they are cooling, nourishing and inviting to focus inwards
RELAXATION - Cooling the eyes will help to calm down excess heat. You can do this by dipping two cotton pads in pure rose water and put them on your eyes. Relax for 10 minutes. Put on some nice and quiet music and completely surrender
FOOD - try a cooler approach to your cooking using cooling spices, (see previous post for a summer spice blend). Some of the best pitta- pacifying foods are leafy greens, coconut, cucumber, cantaloupe and watermelon. Garnish foods with cilantro, parsley and alfalfa sprouts.
BODY - moisturise daily. After showering try this blend, mix one teaspoon each of organic unrefined coconut oil and caster oil in a glass bootle with a cap. Place bottle in a hot water until the oil is lukewarm. Apply to your whole body to keep your skin supple, soft and cool. You can also use this treatment before you swim to protect your skin from salt water or chlorine.
MEDITATION - Try a walk at sunrise to absorb the early morning rays.
WILD WATER - Copy Luna
Namaste.
