We will then flow into deeper integration of our practise by bathing in the sounds, vibrations and frequencies of a sound journey.
Lunch - this will be a bring your own, use of kitchen facilities available.
Smudge Stick Making - With a variety of locally grown herbs supplied by Grounded Blooms of Sway, we will create our own smudge sticks and discover the energetic qualities of the herbs.
Our day will move into deeper relaxation IN Yoga Nidra, an ancient sleep mediation that will guide your awareness to release subconscious emotional stress and tension from your physical body and stimulate the movement of prana through both the body and mind.
We will seal our immersive day with a sharing circle.

This weeks offerings, through Meditation, Yoga, Yoga Nidra and Sacred Sounds, we will be intending to harmonise the seven sacred energy centres along the spine, the main chakra centres

Chakra offerings I find are always such a powerful practise, whether this be through Yoga, Sound or other holistic offerings such as Reiki.

In the Yoga tradition, different thoughts and emotions can get stuck and stored in these energetic centres, so connecting with them with intention can really help to release any sticky energy that no longer serves our wellbeing. Also helping to restore the vital flow of energy to our body, emotions and mind.

As always I very much look forward to sharing these beautiful practises with you this weekend. Thank you for joining me.

A weekly offering I get to share with the beautiful American Oak Tree at the hall prior to classes.

The beautiful mantra, Om Shree Gaia Ma, is a powerful invocation to the divine feminine energy of the earth.

It translates to Om, beautiful, abundant benevolent Earth Mother, you are the fullest perfection.

The mantra is said to align you with the vibration of gratitude and connection to the planet.

Our practises this week will connect with the Ayurvedic and Yogic wisdom for the summer months.

We may experience, the fire energy is predominant during the hotter summer days and it is possible that this heat energy can build in our bodies and we can find ourselves with an excess of it.

Excess heat (Pitta) energy can cause conditions such as inflammation in the body, skin rashes, a heated digestion and also feelings like irritation, frustration and even anger.

Through Yoga and Sound we will look to cool down the body and ground our energy with the soothing and cooling qualities of the earth and water elements.

Twists are a wonderful way to release any excess heat from the centre of the body, as they encourage fluids to the centre of our being. Simply lie down arms out in a t shape to the sides, bend the knees into the chest and let the knees drop over to one side. Add any support you need under the knees.

Open up the heart to the sky and relax the arms Soften and relax your body and mind and stay for a few minutes each side, simply breathing and absorbing the coolness of the earth. Return back to centre, rest palms on your belly and receive the movement of fluid to your centre.

As always, looking forward to sharing this weeks offerings with you.

FEELING HOT -

Try some of the following ideas to help keep cool during the heat, connecting with the beautiful healing practises of Ayurveda & Yoga.

SHEETALI BREATH - Sheetali is the cooling breath.
Sit in sukhasana (crossed legged position), stick your tongue out and curl both sides upwards so that your tongue forms a tube. (If your tongue doesn't roll, bring your front teeth together open your lips and inhale) Inhale through the curled tongue, close the mouth and pause for a minute, and then exhale through the nose. Repeat this 7 times.

YOGA - focus on cooling, cleansing, flowing, and healing. Forward bends are very beneficial to balance pitta (fire energy) as they are cooling, nourishing and inviting to focus inwards

RELAXATION - Cooling the eyes will help to calm down excess heat. You can do this by dipping two cotton pads in pure rose water and put them on your eyes. Relax for 10 minutes. Put on some nice and quiet music and completely surrender

FOOD - try a cooler approach to your cooking using cooling spices, (see previous post for a summer spice blend). Some of the best pitta- pacifying foods are leafy greens, coconut, cucumber, cantaloupe and watermelon. Garnish foods with cilantro, parsley and alfalfa sprouts.

BODY - moisturise daily. After showering try this blend, mix one teaspoon each of organic unrefined coconut oil and caster oil in a glass bootle with a cap. Place bottle in a hot water until the oil is lukewarm. Apply to your whole body to keep your skin supple, soft and cool. You can also use this treatment before you swim to protect your skin from salt water or chlorine.

MEDITATION - Try a walk at sunrise to absorb the early morning rays.

WILD WATER - Copy Luna

It definitely feels the time to create the Ayurvedic summer spice mix.

Adding a seasonal spice mix to your cooking has incredible properties for health and well-being.

The colour of the sumner one is so bright and smells light and fresh.

Here’s the recipe if you may be inspired to try it.

I sprinkled mine on some locally grown seasonal veg.

2 tble spoons Corriander seeds (I was lazy and used ground so go half so 1 if ground)
2 teaspoons fennel seeds (whoops lazy again so go 1 teaspoon if already ground)
1 teaspoon dried mint
2 teaspoon dried dill
1 tble spoon ground turmeric

If you use ground it’s super quick just put in a glass jar shake and keep it air tight. If you use seeds you need to put them in a dry pan over a medium heat until they are just fragrant and then grind them in a mortal and pestle or grinder and then mix everything together.

This spice blend increases sumner flavour while reducing any excess heat from the season.

Enjoy
