🌺 If you’ve gone through Surgical Menopause, you know it’s a whole different ball game compared to Natural Menopause. 🌼

Not only do we have to face the physical and emotional aspects of surgery, but we also have to advocate for our health in a system that often feels broken and unsupportive.

The narrative around Menopause tends to focus heavily on Perimenopause, while Surgical Menopause often gets pushed to the sidelines. 📉 There’s a lack of research and conversation around it, leaving many women feeling isolated in their experience.

We need to change that! 🗣️ It’s time to talk openly about Surgical Menopause—whether you’re a healthcare practitioner, a researcher, or just a woman looking for community support.

If you’re interested in advice or need to talk, send us a DM and let’s chat. 💬✨

Your Pelvic Floor and Breathing Mechanics

⬇️⬇️⬇️

Did you know that when you take deep diaphragmatic breaths you can help with Pelvic Floor Function?

⭐️ As you inhale your pelvic floor descends and relaxes.

⭐️ As you exhale your pelvic floor recoils.

You can use this to your advantage to aid in pelvic floor lengthening and relaxation by focusing on deep belly breaths and visualising your pelvic floor dropping and opening as you inhale.

Likewise you could assist with strengthening and core engagement by exhaling as you contract your pelvic floor or core.

What is Pelvic Organ Prolapse?

⬇️⬇️⬇️

The pelvis is the area of the body between the hips. In women, there are three main organs located within the pelvic area which may become pr*****ed -

➡️ The uterus

➡️ The bladder

➡️ The re**um (the lower part of the bowel)

These organs are held in place by muscles and ligaments, collectively known as the pelvic floor.

The pelvic floor, including the walls of the va**na, can be weakened by over-stretching, natural ageing and the effect of hormones.

If this happens one or more pelvic organs can move from their natural position and bulge into the va**na.

Pelvic organ prolapse is most likely to affect women aged 50 and over.

A pelvic organ prolapse may cause pain or discomfort but can often be rectified with lifestyle changes and simple treatments. However, you may need surgery if the prolapse causes distress and affects your quality of life.

⭐️ How to tell if you have Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Symptoms of a pelvic organ prolapse include -

➡️ A dragging sensation or discomfort in your pelvic area

➡️ Feeling or seeing a bulge or lump in your va**na (sometimes a prolapse can protrude)

➡️ Feeling that your bladder isn't emptying properly

➡️ Stress urinary incontinence (urine leaks when you cough or laugh)

➡️ Needing to urinate more often than usual

➡️ Pain or lack of feeling during s*x

Sometimes a pelvic organ prolapse produces no symptoms at all.

⭐️ Causes of Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Certain things can weaken your pelvic floor, increasing your chance of developing a pelvic organ prolapse. These include -

➡️ Ageing or Menopause, which causes loss of natural muscle tone and hormones

➡️ Being overweight

➡️ Long-term constipation

➡️ Coughing for long periods of time

➡️ Having a hysterectomy

➡️ Activities that involve straining or lifting

➡️ If you experienced difficult or multiple births, you might go on to have a prolapse.

Stress touches every facet of our existence, from personal wellbeing to professional endeavours. It's a universal experience that can significantly influence our mental and physical health.

Stress can affect our mood, energy levels, and overall quality of life. Understanding its signs and developing effective coping strategies is crucial for achieving a happier and healthier existence.

5 Ways to Help Reduce and Manage Stress

⬇️⬇️⬇️

Incorporating these strategies into your daily routine can help you effectively manage and reduce stress in various aspects of your life.

➡️ Deep Breathing and Relaxation Techniques -

Deep breathing exercises, meditation, and progressive muscle relaxation can help calm the mind and reduce stress. These techniques can be practised anywhere and are effective in managing stress levels.

➡️ Physical Activity - 🧘🏽‍♀️ 🚴🏻‍♀️ 🏊‍♀️

Regular exercise, such as walking, jogging, yoga, or dancing, can release endorphins and natural mood lifters. Physical activity helps reduce stress and promotes overall well-being.

➡️ Healthy Diet - 🍉 🍇 🍈

A balanced and nutritious diet can have a significant impact on stress management. Foods rich in antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and whole grains can help reduce stress levels.

➡️ Social Support - 😊

Sharing your feelings and experiences with friends, family, or a support network can provide emotional relief and perspective. Talking to someone you trust can help you feel less isolated during stressful times.

➡️ Time Management - ⏰

Effective time management skills can reduce the stress of deadlines and time constraints. Prioritising tasks, setting realistic goals, and learning to say no when necessary are essential skills for managing stress.

“I’m Not Bendy” Exercise

What is “I’m Not Bendy” Exercise & Yoga Flow?

You could be forgiven for thinking that Yoga is just for flexible, young women doing acrobatic postures in exotic places and meditating by the sea. It is more than enough to put you off going to your first class.

Thankfully, this is not the case and Yoga is for every BODY. We can all have the benefits that come with Yoga.

First of all – you need to have a sense of humour. It really doesn’t matter if you are not flexible. We are all perfectly imperfect and most of us have old and new injuries, it’s ok to not be ok – let’s work with what we’ve got…
