This could be one of the best calf milk powders currently available, especially if you are struggling to get on top of any scour problems.

Britmilk CALF DEFENDER is a transition milk powder designed to be fed after colostrum in the first 7-10 days of a calfs life before moving on to milk replacer.

However it can be used throughout the entire milk feeding period. It is based on the highest quality skim milk powder together with a package of health products designed to get the calf off to a good healthy start.

Calf Defender has a reversed ratio of High Oil to Protein more closely resembling that of cows milk. 24% Oil 22% Protein 0% Fibre

Calf Defender is a top performing Skim based calf milk with 100% all milk protein with low osmolarity. Quality oils/fats are fully homogenised this is when liquid fats/oils are mixed with skim and homogenised to create fat molecules of less than 2 microns in diameter which are then encapsulated in milk solids and spray dried at low temperature. This process results in less free fat in calf milk and leads to greater digestibility.

CALF DEFENDER contains extremely high levels of BioStart powder which is rich in specific polyclonal antibodies, probiotics and prebiotics. Polyclonal antibodies are designed to protect the gut lining from a range of harmful bacteria and virus. Probiotics/Prebiotics provide beneficial bacteria but also stimulate their growth in order to maintain a healthy balance in the calfs gut.

CALF DEFENDER also contains high levels of mamman oligosaccharides (derived from yeast cell walls) which have been shown to remove bad bacteria and toxins and in so doing enhance the immune response in the calf. BioCox SR contains a blend of essential oils with its primary role to control growth of undesirable organisms linked to calf scour and also enhance the immune system.

This time the session was on ''Understanding Sheep Scab and its Control''. The meeting was hosted by Bimeda (the manufacturer of Gold Fleece) and focused on the benefits and best practice for the Diazinon based OP dip - GOLD FLEECE.

The incidence of reported cases of sheep scab has risen 60-fold since the 90's and now costs the UK sheep industry up to Β£200,000,000 per year!

Having an understanding of the parasite life cycle allows us to help you make the right decision and ensure a faster treatment and recovery.

Back to the classroom again for our on farm area managers πŸ§‘β€πŸ«πŸ‘ and this time the training was on ''Effective worm control in sheep''.

CPD or Continuous Professional Development is compulsory for our team as well as being really important when giving you the best and most current advice.

As you know one of the biggest problems that our sheep farmers face currently is the 'lack of efficacy' from all of the older drug groups, but luckily we have two groups that are working extremely well - Zolvix & Startect.

This recent CPD session was hosted by Zoetis the manufacturer of the Group 5/Purple wormer STARTECT (Derquantel & Abamectin - 2 new drugs combined).
