A question that I get asked a lot during treatment...
So what is a muscle knot? Well for a start they aren't actually a knot as our muscle fibres cannot tie themselves into knots.

They are usually found in muscles that are used regularly and repetitively and these areas are often tight for example the upper back and shoulder area. They are bands of muscle fibres that go into spasm due to a limited supply of oxygenated blood flow causing lactic acidosis to build up.

These knots can be painful, restrict range of motion and just be a little annoying. They require manual therapy such as sports massage, deep tissue massage, cupping therapy or acupuncture to relieve them and rest the muscle. These therapies manipulate the muscle fibres into the correct placement and relaxes the spasm - thus reducing your tightness and discomfort.
