Checking your child's vaccination status

To help keep our phone lines available for patients with urgent medical issues, we kindly ask that you contact the Vaccination Service directly on 0300 303 1373 if you need to check your child's vaccination status. They can provide this information quickly and accurately.

⚠️ Meningitis: Please Check Your Child’s Vaccinations 💉

Our Director of Public Health, Professor Tracy Daszkiewicz, is urging parents and carers to make sure children and teenagers are protected against meningitis, following recent tragic cases in Kent 💔

Meningitis can develop very quickly and can be life threatening. Vaccination is the best way to prevent it.

🛡️ Key meningitis protection includes:
• MenB for babies and young children
• Pneumococcal vaccine (can also prevent meningitis)
• MenACWY for Year 9 pupils and young people under 25 starting university

Young children, teenagers and students in shared accommodation are at the highest risk.

👉 Book any missed doses
👉 Learn the symptoms and seek urgent help if concerned

All GP practices in Caerphilly have a half day practice closure for staff training. The practice will close at 12.30pm-6.30pm.

Cleaner Wanted
Location: Risca – Wellspring Medical Centre
Hours: 9 hours per week
Days: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday or Sunday
We’re looking for a reliable and hardworking Cleaner to join our friendly team. The role involves maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the practice.

What we’re looking for:

Good attention to detail
Ability to work independently
Trustworthy and punctual
Previous cleaning experience is an advantage but not essential

Working pattern:

3 days per week
9 hours total
Set days: Tuesday & Thursday evenings - 5.30pm - 8.30pm
Plus either Saturday or Sunday hours to suit.

Why our team may ask what your appointment is about

Our reception team is specially trained as care navigators. Their role is to make sure you get the right care, in the right timeframe, with the right professional.

✅ You don’t need to share private details. A brief idea of the reason for your call is enough (e.g. medication review, new symptom, test results).

✅ Everything you say is confidential. Receptionists are bound by the same confidentiality rules as doctors and nurses.

✅ It helps you get care more quickly. Sometimes, the best person to help you may be a nurse, pharmacist, physiotherapist, or another healthcare professional — not always a GP.

• You don’t need to call exactly at 8am — we will prioritise based on clinical need.

• Not everything is released at 8am.
• More appointments are now available later in the day and online.
• You can also book in advance for ongoing health needs.

💻 Other Ways to Contact Us
• Use the NHS App or our online consultation form for non-urgent issues.
• Request repeat prescriptions online, without calling.

New Digital Weight Management Service "Gro Health" Launched for Gwent Residents.

Tracy Daszkiewicz, Director of Public Health for Gwent said,“ It is fantastic to add the digital weight management service for health improvement. Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is complex and challenging, so it is important that information and support is available in a number of ways. We know that many factors affect our weight; our diet, the food we have available to us, safe spaces to take physical activity, our age, genetics, trauma, existing illnesses, our environment to name a few. Ensuring people have the tools to stay healthy helps avoid associated preventable illness such as heart attacks, stroke and high blood pressure. We hope this new digital service will provide another way for people to access information to support their approaches to good health and wellbeing”.

Guidance for booking appointments via the NHS Wales App

Go to Appointments.
Select GP practice appointments.
Select Book an appointment. You may see a message saying there are no appointments available to book or your practice appointment booking is unavailable. This is because your practice either does not offer appointment booking in the App or all the appointments are fully booked.
Select Which type of appointment do I need?
Select Location.
Select Practice member (optional).
In Available appointments select the date and time you want.
Give a reason for this appointment (optional).
Your practice may make only certain appointments available to book through the App, such as routine appointments, and they may only release a certain number of appointments in the App.

**Flu vaccinations appointments**

We will be running flu clinics at the surgery for our registered patients, on the following Saturdays;

Saturday 4th October - 9am - 12noon - OVER 65's ONLY

Saturday 18th October - 9am - 12noon - Under 65's at risk/Over 65's

To book an appointment for your flu vaccination we strongly encourage you to use the NHS Wales App to book directly. A reminder that the clinic on 4th October is for OVER 65's ONLY.
