This time with our new imagery from Kamil Szaja Photography. 😍

Thank you Kamil! We love our new headshots... what does everyone else think?

Facial Aesthetics by Julie Scott

It’s been a long 16 weeks but I’m so pleased to be looking forward to the end of lockdown and reopening Facial Aesthetics.

This time has taught me so many lessons and reminded me how much I have to be grateful for in my life and my business. Now is a good time to reflect on this as we look forward to the manic weeks and months that greet us on the other side of reopening. It’s time for me to put together my gratitude list, and it would be wonderful if anyone else wanted to do the same to spread some positivity on Facebook. Warning - it’s a long list!

Would you believe that having my business closed actually brought me the opportunity to become closer to other business owners? Well, I have to say how thankful I am to have gotten to know or know better fellow aesthetic practictioners/owners - Jay, Tony, Daniel, Anna, Juliette, Raquel, Christine, Davina, Jane - you are among these and our many calls have kept me going on several occasions over the last few months!

I can’t mention these colleagues without saying thank you to Pam and Adam, the matriarchal and patriarchal figures to so many of us in this industry. Where would I be without you gurus to turn to even whilst you were dealing with your own challenges.

Then of course I have my team. Sam, you furthering your knowledge and working on your Level 4 has been an inspiration. Hannah, you are my wing woman, right hand, and second brain all at once and I couldn’t be without you. And Matthew, you never fail to be my rock - calm, resilient, and tenacious. Thank you for never letting me lose it! Of course Théa wouldn’t want me to write a post like this without mentioning her, so thank you sweetie for helping me to get out of my head and reconnect with my lovely surroundings.

My gratitude continues thanks to amazing colleagues in the industry who have recognised how much I have to contribute. It’s wonderful to work with you now and in the future, Danny, Gemma, Becky, Rebecca, Roisin, and Rachel. I’m excited for what’s to come!

And ok, this may not be work related, but Truman - having a new puppy in the house has been both a welcome distraction and a reminder of the importance of patience. You’re worth having to replace some carpeting and curtains. 😉

Last and certainly not least, a massive thank you to each and every one of my incredible patients. You are the most loyal and caring patients, often reaching out to me to check in during this time and being there ready and waiting for when we reopen. My business is only what it is because of you, and I can’t wait to welcome each one of you back to clinic.

I made a pact with myself at the beginning of this strange period of our lives that I wouldn’t let this beat or defy me. I’m now proud of myself and what I’ve accomplished and excited for the future and what it will bring for me, my family and my patients. Bring it on!

We were very disheartened Friday evening when the government released new legislation stating that premises which provide “services including cosmetic, aesthetic and wellness treatments” must remain closed for a few more weeks.

We now have a lack of clarity from our governing bodies and also our insurance providers on how far this extends. Whilst we offer medical treatments, I feel uncomfortable opening the clinic until I have assurance that we're working within government guidelines.

After being completely ready to reopen this morning with policies, procedures, paperwork and PPE in place to ensure a completely safe patient experience, Friday’s last-minute news came as a shock to us and we spent Saturday calling our patients who were booked in for the start of this week. Now we sadly have to announce to all of our patients that we are staying closed for just a little bit longer. At the end of the day this is all about protecting public health and keeping everyone safe.

We hope to gain more information this week, and the government has advised that the legislation will be reviewed on the 28th of this month.

So, this calls for a big thank you in advance for your patience and your loyalty. We’re so eager to see you in clinic again and offer the treatments we’ve all been eagerly awaiting for the last couple months - after all, it will only be a few more weeks before we can see you again!

We’ll be contacting patients individually in advance of their appointments and will be working extended hours when we do reopen to make sure we can accommodate every single one of our lovely patients who wants to be seen for treatment. In the meantime, if you’d like to be added to the list for an appointment, if you need any skincare, or even if you’d just like to chat, please don’t hesitate to contact the clinic. Remember I am still here for virtual consultations or advice. 🙏

Warm wishes,
Julie

Feel Good Friday... this Friday I'm feeling especially good after a few days in Norfolk with my family and taking our new puppy Truman to the beach for the first time. 🐶

What has everyone else been up to this week?

I gave TikTok a try! What do you think? Go easy on me please. 😬

The Dr Levy R3 Cell Matrix mask is my new favourite product and I had to find a quick way to share it with all of you because it will make your skin feel like velvet after using it for 30 minutes or even overnight.

RRP £70, please message me or comment if you’d like to order one.

[06/09/20]   I highly recommend Pam and Adam if you are struggling with your Aesthetic business in any aspect and want to take it into the future. Wonderful dynamic people.

Washing your hands for 20 seconds multiple times throughout the day - it’s incredibly important for preventing the spread of disease, but also potentially a contributing factor to ageing hands.
So how do we combat this?
When hand cream isn’t enough, Profhilo can be injected to the hands to increase their hydration and make the skin look younger and healthier.
It’s a fantastic treatment we expect to be doing lots of when we reopen!

How have your hands been during lockdown?

NOTE: Our patient’s left hand has been treated in the video whilst right hand has been left untreated to show difference in results. This is one week post treatment and results will continue to improve with time particularly after the second treatment, before requiring further treatment in 6-8 months time.

Oh, the 80s…

When I used to lay out in the sun wanting nice tanned brown hands! And now I have freckly hands. 🙄

Thankfully Cryotherapy is available to remove age spots. I’ve had the treatment myself and love treating my patients with the Cryopen as well.

Did anyone used to sun-worship and end up regretting it now? 🤣☀️

Let’s play 2 Truths and a Lie with our amazing medical aesthetician Sam!

Can you guess which two are true and which one is the lie?

* She worked and lived in the Caribbean
* She travelled the world on cruise ships also working as an aesthetician
* She qualified in Beauty Therapy in the early 2000s

Watch our ‘Meet Sam’ video to find out…

Sam’s knowledge and dedication to getting skin healthy is immense and any patients who have been to see her for a Hydrafacial or other treatment know what a difference just one treatment with Sam can make to their skin.

To be added to her waiting list for appointments once we reopen, email [email protected]

Meet your practitioner: Julie Scott RGN NIP

How do you know who you can trust?

As I mentioned in my last video you should always ask about your practitioner’s qualifications. So we made a little video detailing mine. Can you believe I first qualified in 1992! 😮

Hannah’s editor note: Julie undersold herself a little here as she founded Facial Aesthetics in 2003 and has been doing treatments like toxin, fillers and thread vein removal since! The last seven years have seen Facial Aesthetics in a permanent and beautiful private countryside location that Julie hopes her patients love as much as she does.

With the industry changing so much, I feel the need to point out that when choosing a practitioner for your aesthetic treatments it is important to look for a few key things:

1. Are they qualified? Remember, certain treatments such as those involving injections should only be carried out by a doctor, nurse, or dentist. You can research practitioners and check that they are registered with the appropriate regulating body such as the GMC or NMC.

2. Do they have indemnity insurance? You can ask to see proof of this. Mine is displayed in clinic.

3. Are they offering you different treatment options?

4. Are all possible side effects and complications discussed with you at consultation?

5. Have you been given time to reflect? A practitioner should never pressure you into treatment.

6. Are you happy and comfortable with the practitioner? You’ll need to trust them when you place your face and looks in their hands!

If you’d like more information on this, or even on me as a practitioner, don’t hesitate to get in touch. My inbox is always open ➡️ [email protected]

Julie's Beauty Recommendations (just for fun!)

To finish off the last few days of discussing skincare ingredients, Hannah and I (along with Toto) took the conversation in a different direction.

Don't worry, we were 2 meters apart, outside, and all social distancing regulations were followed. 😊

When you’ve applied all your active creams and serums, do you ever just want a nice product that feels luxurious or smells delicious? I’ve got you covered…

Products mentioned:
Elemis Pro Collagen Cleansing Balm
Hourglass Ambient Light Powder
Dr Hauschka Rose Cream
Trinny London Miracle Balm
Diptyque Candle in Fig
Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Lip Balm

Up next in skincare ingredients: Vitamin C!

I firmly believe anyone and everyone should have it as part of their daily skincare routine.

Why? It brightens any uneven skin tone, it’s good for anti ageing, it’s collagen boosting, an antioxidant, and it even fights against free radicals that cause ageing.

However there are dozens if not hundreds of Vitamin C products out there at strengths ranging from 2 to upwards of 30% - so how do you know which to choose?

I can help with this. If you are interested in the complexion brightening properties of Vitamin C, just email [email protected] to schedule a virtual consultation.

Have you ever wondered about all the different Vitamin A products on the market, which one you need, and what the difference is?

It’s definitely one of the more confusing ingredients but it’s a very powerful one.

Watch the video and if you have any skincare or ingredients questions, drop them in the comments! 😊👇

Thank you WhatClinic! Only a very small percentage of the more than 120,000 clinics on WhatClinic win this award.

They look at emails, phone calls, patient reviews, and so many other variables to determine who earns the Patient Service Award and we're very proud to be one of the few clinics who has won this year. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you to everyone who has left us a review. There's nothing we love more than exceeding patient expectations! 🥰

Whenever we do reopen our doors again, I'll most likely be greeting you like this. Don't worry!

I may look a bit more protected than I normally do when treating, but it's still the same Julie smiling under the mask, I promise.

Things will be a little different when we reopen, and that's ok. Though treatments will involve precautions like PPE, shortened appointment times and paperless consent forms, patient safety is still our number one concern and our ethos remains the same...

Providing an exceptional level of treatment in peace & tranquility. ✨🌿🌺

Our Strategy for Rebooking Appointments

In case you missed our post the other day, here is a helpful video explaining what our strategy is for reopening and how we will approaching getting all our lovely patients booked back in as quickly as possible.

**Our plan for reopening**

Many of us are beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel, and though we're still not clear on how long that tunnel may be, I do think it's important to provide a bit more clarity on the direction of my business for my lovely patients.

I am very much looking forward to reopening Facial Aesthetics as soon as it is safe and advised by the government and my regulating body, and to welcoming back all of my lovely patients again.

As yet, we don't have clarity on when this may be. However, once we have a confirmed reopening date we will be working diligently to rebook all our patients in the order they were cancelled.

This will be followed by the patients who have gotten in touch and requested an appointment during the lockdown period in the order that they contacted us. If you would like to be added to this list, please let Hannah know via email on [email protected].

Please note, it may take us a few days to get through this list of all our amazing patients we can't wait to see again, as already we have over 6 weeks of bookings that have been cancelled. We will work as quickly as possible to get you booked back in at a time that suits your schedule, and we ask only for your patience in the meantime.

When we DO reopen, things may seem a little different, and that's ok! We'll be sending out more specific guidelines in the coming weeks but rest assured that we are putting policies in place regarding PPE, hygiene, and appointment times to further ensure your safety when we reopen. Patient safety has always been our #1 concern - that's one thing that HASN'T changed!

Last up in Frequently Asked Questions week...

The very common and reasonable question of cost.

However, in my opinion your choice of treatment and practitioner should never come down to cost.

It should be something to be considered, but never the #1 concern.

What should come first? Your practitioner's experience, the quality of the products being used, and your suitability to the treatment to start.

Please watch my video on why I run my practice this way and what other questions you should ask a practitioner in addition to "what is the price?"

On that note, what do you think of the phrase 'you get what you pay for'?
