Rochdale Occupational Health Service Ltd

Rochdale Occupational Health Service Ltd Protecting, Improving and Promoting healthcare in the workplace since 1963 Today, the same aims and objectives apply.

The Rochdale Occupational Health Service Ltd (ROHS), registered Charity No: 222649, was established in 1963 with the aid of a grant from the Nuffield Foundation. The aims and objectives were to provide occupational health services for workers in Rochdale and surrounding districts in the style of a co-operative - sharing health care services and facilities provided by nursing and medical staff, providing regular contact for the benefit of workers in a wide range of industries, at a reasonable cost to the employer. ROHS has grown steadily and now, nearly 50 years later, has matured with a wealth of experience gained over those years. The present qualified professional staff work closely with member companies to provide occupational health and safety expertise, and their knowledge contributes to each company establishing safe working practices and a safe working environment for the company’s employees within the guidelines of numerous regulations.

Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) can affect people who regularly use vibrating tools at work. In the UK, around 1 in 10 workers exposed to vibration may develop HAVS if the risks aren’t properly managed. It can cause numbness, tingling and loss of strength in the hands and arms.

🎧 Tinnitus Week 2026 – 2 to 9 February

Tinnitus Week is all about raising awareness of tinnitus, the ringing or buzzing in your ears and how to protect your hearing. This year’s focus is on live music and how to enjoy it safely. Loud sounds, whether at concerts or in everyday life, can trigger or make tinnitus worse.

At Rochdale Occupational Health Service (ROHS), we can help. We offer hearing checks (audiometry) to spot early signs of hearing damage. By checking your hearing regularly, you can take steps to protect it and prevent further problems.

Tinnitus Week is a good reminder to look after your ears at work, at gigs, and at home. ROHS can support you and your team with hearing checks and advice on protecting your hearing.

🌡️ February is Raynaud’s Awareness Month ❄️

Raynaud’s is a condition that affects blood flow to the fingers and toes, often triggered by cold temperatures or stress. For many people, symptoms like numbness, pain and colour changes can have a real impact at work, especially in colder environments or roles involving regular hand use.

Raynaud’s Awareness Month is a good opportunity for employers and employees to start the conversation and think about simple ways to provide support, such as:

• Keeping workplace temperatures comfortable
• Allowing regular warm-up or movement breaks
• Making sure PPE and uniforms don’t increase cold exposure
• Encouraging staff to speak up if symptoms are affecting their work
