☀️ It’s Not Only The Sun That Damages The Skin

In addition to the damaging effects of ultra violet light, there are other detrimental things in our environment to consider for our skin’s health, like free radicals.

These destructive molecules destabilise the skin by causing oxidation to occur, in turn causing signs of premature ageing and the destruction of the vital proteins that give skin its support.

Complimenting your regime by applying antioxidants underneath your SPF will greatly boost your protection and help maintain your complexion.

Look to use a serum with highly stabilised vitamin C such as magnesium ascorbyl phosphate and ascorbyl glucoside. These anti-oxidants scavenge free radicals and stabilise them to inhibit their destructive actions on breaking down collagen and elastin fibres, whilst simultaneously brightening the skin and promoting a radiant glow.

It may be raining but we are still susceptible to UV rays.

We all think we know how to use SPF, but do we?

Many of us still get caught out with sunburn, so let’s get back to basics to protect our skin 🌞

SPF measures the level of protection a sunscreen offers against the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

The difference in effectiveness between SPF 25 and SPF 50 is not a straightforward calculation.

The SPF rating measures the sunscreen’s ability to filter UV rays, which are responsible for sunburn.

To give you an idea, SPF 25 filters approximately 96% of UV rays, while SPF 50 filters around 98%.

This means that SPF 50 provides slightly more UV protection than SPF 25, but the percentage difference is relatively small.

It’s important to note that SPF ratings are not on a linear scale. For example, SPF 50 does not offer double the protection of SPF 25.

The critical factor is the time it takes for the skin to burn rather than the percentage of UV rays blocked.

The effectiveness of sunscreen depends on various factors, including how much is applied, how thoroughly it is applied, frequency of reapplication, your skin type, the intensity of the sun’s rays, and other things such as wearing protective clothing or sitting in the shade.

As a rule, ensure you cover your skin thoroughly with a minimum of SPF 25, re-apply frequently, keep in the shade as much as possible, and watch your skin for signs of pinkness.

Health, Wellbeing & Relaxation

Hi and thank you for visiting my page. Since doing my first training courses in massage & reflexology at the wonderful Sandra Day School in Rochdale almost 18 years ago I have gone on to do courses in other holistic therapies, beauty and advanced beauty. I have owned my own salons both in the UK and in Spain and worked in some of the best Spas and salons in Manchester City Center but now I have come full circle back to Rochdale to start my new chapter - In Balance Reflexology & Holistic Therapy.

Using all the knowledge and skills I have learned over the years as well as the CPD courses I am constanly doing (I do like a course!) I hope to welcome my existing and new clients to what I hope is a lovely relaxing space where we can work on your health, wellbeing and relaxation. I offer a whole range of complimentary therapies as well as facials and body treatments including painfree laser hair removal.

Late last year I was contacted to ask if I did RLD. I hadn’t heard of it so I googled it and that message has changed my path and I am now an approved RLD practitioner .

RLD or Reflexology Lymph Drainage was developed through clinical pracatice using reflexology on breast cancer patients to help manage the symptoms of secondary lymphodema which develops in roughly 20% of cases. Lymphoedema develops when the lymphatic system is damaged. This precisoin treatment stimulates the lymphatic system encouraging excess lymph to drain away from the damaged area to the nearest uncompromised lymph nodes.
