👣 Corn vs Callus - what’s the difference? 🔍

Hard skin on your feet is common, but not all hard skin is the same.

A corn is a small, concentrated spot of hard skin that usually forms on or between the toes and may feel tender.

A callus is a thicker, tougher patch of skin that develops on areas of the foot that get the most pressure, like the heel or ball of the foot.

Both are caused by pressure or friction and are the skin’s way of protecting itself 🩹

💬 Have you ever noticed a corn or callus on your feet? 💬

Checking the circulation in your feet is an important part of foot health! 👣

At our clinic, we often use a Doppler ultrasound when assessing new patients to check how well blood is flowing to the feet.

The Doppler is a small handheld device that allows us to listen to the blood flow in the arteries of your foot, helping us assess your circulation and identify any potential concerns.

We recommend having your circulation checked at least once a year, especially if you have diabetes, as diabetes can affect blood flow and increase the risk of foot complications.

The test is quick, painless and completely non-invasive, but provides valuable information about your overall foot health 🙂👣

With the mornings getting brighter, many people start running again around this time of year! 🏃‍♀️

If you’re getting back into it, a few simple tips can help avoid foot pain:

🏃 Increase distance gradually
👟 Make sure your running shoes aren’t worn out
🦵 Stretch your calves and feet
⏳ Take rest days between runs

Easing back into running can help keep your feet happy this spring! ☀️

Holding onto furniture more than you used to? 🤔

Changes in your feet - such as reduced sensation, nail problems, stiffness or pain - can all affect balance.

A podiatry assessment can check circulation and sensation, reduce discomfort and help improve stability when walking! 🚶‍♀️

Staying steady starts from the ground up 👣

👟 How Old Are Your Trainers… Really?

Most everyday trainers last around 300-500 miles, but many of us wear them far beyond that👀

Signs it’s time to replace them:
• Soles worn smooth
• Leaning to one side at the back
• New aches in feet, knees or hips
• Less cushioning than before

Old trainers can quietly contribute to foot pain without you realising! 😢

👶 Looking After Little Feet 👣

Just like visits to the dentist or optician, children’s feet can benefit from regular checks with a podiatrist. Whether it’s for peace of mind, general assessment, questions about walking or flat feet, a podiatry check helps ensure their feet are developing healthily. 🥰🦶

🔎 Spotted a Verruca? Here’s What to Know 👣

Verrucas are small, rough growths caused by a virus, usually appearing on the soles of the feet, often with tiny black dots in the centre.

They can spread easily through shared surfaces like showers or swimming pools 🚿 and may be painful when walking or standing - though some people hardly notice them at all.

If you’re unsure or it’s causing discomfort, we recommend seeing a podiatrist for proper assessment and treatment 🦶
