I often get asked this question - why Is nutrition so important and how does it work for combat athletes and high performance based sports.
I’m going to cover the main points for you here⬇️⬇️⬇️
✅ Nutrition uses a lot of similar principles in terms of providing your body with all the essentials nutrients it needs: carbohydrates , proteins , fats, fibre , antioxidants, minerals.
✅ We need a combination of all these nutrients to make sure our bodies are functioning optimally.
✅In this case of combat sports, we want to place a huge emphasis on appropriate macronutrient splits- understanding that carbohydrates are the main fuel source due to the anaerobic nature of the sports which needs glucose to fuel the repeated high intense bouts.
✅We also have to understand that getting sufficient levels of dietary protein is key to provide the Body with the building blocks necessary to repair and restructure damaged muscle tissue.
✅ The protein is also needed to accelerate injury recovery and getting our bodies back to a normal optimal state.
✅Another important aspect for combat sports nutrition is getting a sufficient amount of calories - this is one huge mistake lot of fighters make , it’s not easy to get high amounts of energy into the body, but when training so intensely and frequently we need to match the energy demands of the body by proving enough fuel to Perform and recover optimally.
