🎾 The Padel Boom – Fun, Fitness & Physio Facts 💪

Padel is taking the world by storm — and it’s easy to see why! Fast-paced, social, and an incredible full-body workout that blends the best of tennis and squash.

Those quick movements, rotations, and bursts of speed mean padel works your legs, core, shoulders, and arms, while giving your heart and lungs a serious cardio boost. Plus, it improves coordination, balance, and reaction time.

But with more people playing, we’re also seeing a rise in padel-related injuries in the clinic, including:
⚡ Tennis elbow (from repetitive swings)
⚡ Shoulder strain or impingement (from overhead shots)
⚡ Lower back pain (from twisting and lunging)
⚡ Knee & ankle sprains (from sudden direction changes)

These often stem from overuse, poor technique, or lack of conditioning for the sport’s demands.

✅ Prevention is key:
Warm up properly, strengthen your core and shoulders, add mobility work, and build up your playing time gradually. And if pain starts creeping in — don’t ignore it! Early physiotherapy can make all the difference.

At The Physiotherapy Clinic, our physios can help you stay injury-free and perform your best with tailored mobility, strength, and recovery programs designed for padel players.

💬 Book an appointment or message us to find out how we can keep you on the court — pain-free and performing at your best!

This week our team took part in some CPD (Continuous Professional Development) — an essential part of our growth as Physiotherapists. Keeping up to date with new treatments and research helps us continue to provide the best possible care for our patients 💪📚

We had a fantastic session exploring acupuncture points and related pathologies 🧠💆‍♀️ — a great opportunity to deepen our knowledge, share insights, and have plenty of fun along the way! 🤩

A special mention to Tatjana, who began her APPI Pilates Instructor journey this week! She’s completed Level 1 — a physio-led, structured Pilates course covering the anatomy of movement, basic principles, slings, and much more. We’re so proud to see her expanding her skills 👏✨

🍑 Did You Know?

Your glutes aren’t just for sitting — they’re one of the most important muscles for your hips, spine, and posture!

Strong glutes help you move better, reduce pain, and protect your back — whether you’re climbing stairs, lifting, or just getting through your day. 💪
At our clinic, we help you strengthen safely with tailored exercise plans that build power, stability, and confidence.

💪 Reformer Pilates vs Mat Pilates — Which is best for YOU?

As a physiotherapist, I often get asked: “Should I be doing Reformer or Mat Pilates?”
The truth is — both have fantastic benefits, but the right choice depends on your goals, experience, and any injuries or conditions you may have. 👇

🧘‍♀️ Mat Pilates – The Foundation

✅ Builds core strength and body awareness
✅ Can be done anywhere — minimal equipment needed
✅ Challenges stability, balance, and control using your own body weight

Best for:
• People new to Pilates or recovering from injury (can start gentle and progress)
• Lower back pain or postural issues
• Those wanting to improve movement control and deep core activation

💡 As a physio, I love using Mat Pilates to retrain stabilising muscles and restore functional movement patterns.

🔩 Reformer Pilates – The Game Changer

✅ Uses springs, pulleys, and resistance for a full-body workout
✅ Allows both assistance and challenge — great for all levels
✅ Excellent for targeting specific muscles and improving alignment

Best for:
• Joint pathologies (e.g., knee, hip, shoulder osteoarthritis) — resistance can be controlled precisely
• Post-surgical rehab (e.g., ACL, shoulder stabilisation, spinal surgery)
• Athletes looking to enhance strength, flexibility, and movement efficiency

💡 As a physio, I use the Reformer to support early rehab safely and then progressively load as strength improves.

🩺 In short:
• Mat Pilates = foundation, control, and stability
• Reformer Pilates = support, resistance, and precision

Both can complement each other beautifully — and when guided by a physiotherapist, can be tailored to your exact needs and recovery goals. 🙌

🌍 It’s World Osteoporosis Day! 💪

Today, we’re raising awareness for a silent condition that affects over 500 million people worldwide — osteoporosis.

Despite being so common, osteoporosis often goes undiagnosed and untreated. Up to 80% of people receive no follow-up care after an osteoporotic fracture — leading to long-term consequences that could be prevented.

🦴 The risks are real:
• Chronic pain
• Loss of mobility and independence
• Increased risk of future fractures
• Premature death

It’s time to change the story.
Early detection, targeted exercise, and proper management can make all the difference in maintaining bone health and independence.

Let’s move toward a stronger, safer future — one bone at a time. 💚
