My name is Carolynne and I have worked in many different acute and primary care settings throughout my career. I am fully trained and insured to carry out 3 methods of ear wax removal, microsuction, ear irrigation and manual instrument removal. I am mobile and cover Medway, Maidstone and the surrounding areas. If you fall just outside this area and want to use my services then please contact me and Im sure something can be arranged! I will do a discount if more than 1 person in the same household wishes to use my services. Every appointment includes a comprehensive assessment of the ears and we will decide together, taking into account your medical history and preference, which method of ear wax removal will be carried out.

Many GP surgeries no longer offer ear wax removal, and if they do, the wait time for an appointment is very long. This is an easy and cost effective way to sort out your ear wax problem from the comfort of your own home!

What is ear irrigation/ syringing? An electronic ear irrigator is used; it involves a pressurised flow of warm water that removes the build-up of earwax. The irrigator has variable pressure control so that irrigation can be performed at the minimum pressure. A controlled flow of warm water will be squirted into your ear canal to flush out the earwax. Ear irrigation should be a painless procedure.

What is Microsuction? A suction device is used to clean the ear without the use of water. The gentle suction device works in a similar way to a vacuum cleaner and although it can be quite noisy, it is quick and painless.

Preparing your ears for ear wax removal:

There are many different products you can use to soften ear wax removal, but the easiest one to get hold of is olive oil! Apply for a minimum 3 days before ear wax removal as follows:

Tilt your head to one side and gently pull the outer ear back and upwards. Drop two or three drops of olive oil into the ear canal. Do not warm the oil, room temperature is fine. Keep your head tiled for a few minutes to allow the oil to soak in. Repeat on the other side.

Hi everyone.
Lately I have seen quite a few people who have had there ears damaged by previous wax removal, or they have not had a serious auricular condition recognised which if left untreated could have caused irreversible hearing loss by somebody who is not trained properly to recognise abnormalities within the ear.

The wax removal industry isn’t regulated so anybody (people with no medical knowledge or background) can do a day course in wax removal and carry out this treatment, but I would strongly advise you to check the credentials of somebody who you are trusting with your ears. The ear drum is only 0.1mm thick so there is a lot of scope for things to to wrong. Personally I would only trust a registered nurse or an audiologist with something as delicate as my hearing. I am a nurse and we are trained in otoscopy and if I find any abnormality I will write a letter to your gp to treat or to refer you on the relevant department using my knowledge and experience. I have developed a trusting relationship with many gp surgeries so they will usually act swiftly on the referral when received from myself or other established nurses/audiologists who carry out this procedure in the local area.

This isn’t an advertisement to come and book with me but is just a warning to please check the credentials of people you are trusting with something as important as your hearing 🙂
