Attended a really thought provoking CPD this week:
“I am here. Where are you?” Understanding the dynamics of dissociation when working with all 8 phases of EMDR, delivered by Dr Sharon Croskin.

It’s given me lots to reflect on in my work with PTSD and complex PTSD, particularly around how we attune, adapt, pace and create safety when dissociation is present.

I was especially drawn to the use of more creative and contained approaches, including sand tray work, to help explore someone’s inner world in a more gentle and safer way.

Definitely something I’m keen to think more about and explore further training in. Great to see you there too

Sometimes it’s not that you don’t want to move on or leave, it’s that your nervous system is stuck.

After difficult or traumatic relationships, part of the brain is focused on avoiding pain (“don’t get hurt again”), while another part longs for connection, safety, or growth. These two drives can pull in opposite directions, leaving you feeling frozen, unable to move on from a past relationship or unable to leave a current one, even when you know it isn’t right.

This isn’t weakness or indecision. It’s protection.
With the right support, that inner conflict can soften, allowing you to move forward with clarity and self-compassion. 💛 Image created and shared by Carolyn Spring today from ‘Working with Terminal Ambivalence Course’.

CPD Day: CBT Skills in Cancer Care

Today I’m attending a specialist training with James Rathbone, focusing on CBT skills in cancer care. An incredibly important area where psychological support can make a real difference.

Continued professional development helps me stay informed, compassionate and equipped to support clients facing some of life’s toughest challenges. Grateful for the opportunity to keep learning and evolving.

Join Solve and Evolve Therapies as an Associate Therapist ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Solve and Evolve Therapies is a growing practice providing high-quality CBT, EMDR, counselling, and supervision services. Following the successful onboarding of associates, we are now looking to expand our team further and are particularly seeking associate therapists who can offer face-to-face sessions in Medway.

We are interested in working with therapists who:

Provide CBT or EMDR services for adults and/or children and young people AND must also be able to offer in-person therapy to meet local client demand in the Medway area.

This is an excellent opportunity for self-employed therapists who value flexibility and want the support of an established practice.

If this sounds like you, or you would like to learn more, please get in touch to discuss the next steps.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Jumping out of a plane at 12,000 feet isn’t something I do every day… but it taught me something powerful.

Taking a leap, whether it’s out of a plane or into therapy, can feel terrifying. But growth often begins the moment we step outside of our comfort zone.

Starting therapy, asking for support, making a change, it all takes courage. Just like skydiving, you don’t have to feel 100% ready to take that first step. You just have to be willing to try.

I see that bravery every day in the people I work with. It’s not about being fearless, it’s about doing it anyway. When I think about how far some of my clients have come, the risks they’ve taken to face difficult emotions and life challenges, it honestly makes me feel quite emotional and incredibly proud of them.

If you’re ready to take that next step in your mental health journey, I’m here to support you.

Great to be back in a room full of energy and learning at an in-person Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) Chair Work training with Dr Tobyn Bell — and lovely to see some familiar faces too!
Chair Work is a powerful technique often used in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) to help bridge the gap between what we know in our minds and what we feel in our hearts.

Many people say, “I understand it rationally, but I just don’t feel it.” Chair Work helps create that emotional shift, making it easier to process and work through difficult experiences.

It can support you in:
• Building greater self-compassion
• Improving self-esteem by challenging critical self-talk
• Understanding and working with different parts of yourself — like the anxious, angry, or vulnerable parts
• Processing unresolved feelings towards others (even if they are not physically present)
• Gaining new perspectives on past experiences and relationships
• Strengthening emotional regulation and resilience

Through Chair Work, clients often find it easier to express emotions, untangle internal conflicts and feel more connected to their authentic selves.

It was inspiring to experience this work in practice again and reflect on how transformative it can be.

I hear similar stories from so many of my young clients. Early intervention can make such a difference. Research shows that accessing evidence-based treatments like CBT early can lead to much better outcomes for young people. A Support Hub with quick, easy access to mental health support could be life changing for some. I’m passionate about helping young people access timely support through my work at Solve and Evolve Therapies.

Just wrapped up the final session in a series of 6 wellbeing workshops with Year 6 students, plus a follow-up session to share key learnings with the class. We explored emotions, managed worries, built resilience and boosted confidence ahead of their transition to secondary school. It’s been a joy to support these young minds – early intervention really does make a difference!

Today, I attended an insightful and well-delivered course on CBT for Body Image, which reinforced and enhanced my knowledge in this important area.

In today’s world, factors like social media, the growing accessibility of cosmetic procedures and societal pressures are significantly influencing our views on body image. Research shows that over 70% of people report dissatisfaction with their appearance, and this has been linked to rising rates of low self-esteem, anxiety and even depression.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can play a vital role in improving our relationship with our bodies. Through CBT, we can:
• Explore the underlying factors impacting how we feel about our bodies.
• Challenge and change unhelpful beliefs about appearance.
• Reduce harmful behaviours, such as avoidance or excessive checking.
• Develop healthier, more compassionate ways of thinking about ourselves.

It’s about moving towards greater self-acceptance and improving self-esteem.

I’d also like to highlight the amazing work of initiatives like the Dove Self-Esteem Project, which provides free resources on body image and commits to sharing authentic representations of real women and men in their campaigns.

If you or someone you know is struggling with body image, please know that support is available. Therapy can make a difference.
