This morning at Friston House was filled with fun and curiosity as we explored the world of shapes through our weekly interactive quiz.
Together we looked at where we see shapes in everyday life, what they mean, and even tackled a few tricky questions—like how many sides a circle really has, and how to tell an octagon from a decagon.

Later, everyone got hands-on making their own Tangram puzzles, using all seven pieces to form different silhouettes.

It was a lovely session that encouraged creativity, problem-solving, and plenty of laughter as we challenged our minds and shared ideas.

These wonderfully kind ladies rounded out our week of remembrance by painting poppies upon these stones and writing messages of remembrance on the undersides.

In total 12 were decorated and I have placed these in our local parks and open spaces as well as the Royal Naval Memorial.

Our hope is that, over the course of next year, they are discovered and provide a moment of silent thought and peace to those who find them and that they too might give thanks to the brave service personnel who gave so much for our freedom.

James Lin, aka The Funky Fiddler, brought pure joy to our residents during his very first performance at Friston House Care Home yesterday.

From the moment his bow touched the strings, the room lit up with clapping, singing, and cheerful calls for more.

His infectious county–bluegrass style had even the staff unable to resist—one by one they took to the floor for a lively jig, swept up in the irresistible rhythm.

James filled the afternoon with beautifully delivered songs, many long forgotten but instantly remembered with fond smiles.

We are delighted to share that James will be returning on Sunday, 7th December, and his next performance is certainly not to be missed—everyone is warmly invited to join us.

The kitchen team at Friston House have once again proven their dedication to excellence, earning the highest possible grade in their recent annual assessment by the Food Standards Agency.

This remarkable achievement is a testament to their hard work, consistency, and commitment to maintaining the very best standards in food safety and quality.

Our Deputy Manager Adela, was delighted to present the team with some gifts of thanks, followed by an impromptu buffet for us all.

Combined with our Head Chef Abin’s recent national award, it highlights just how strong, skilled, and passionate this team truly is.

This morning at Friston House, a calm and reflective atmosphere fills the home as residents gather to observe Remembrance Sunday.
With residents proudly wearing a poppy, a small but powerful symbol of gratitude and remembrance.

The televisions are tuned to the national commemoration from the Cenotaph, where the Royal Family and dignitaries lead the country in honouring those who gave their lives in service.

As the two minutes’ silence approaches, conversations fade and heads bow in quiet respect — a shared moment of reflection uniting everyone at Friston House with millions across the nation.

On Wednesday 5th of November, Friston House gathered for a truly unique fireworks experience, a stunning digital display presented on a giant 15ft by 8ft screen.

The vibrant visuals, perfectly synchronised to music, brought the spirit of Bonfire Night to life in a spectacular fusion of colour, sound, and motion.

Everyone enjoyed glasses of sparkling wine and delicious marshmallow and fruit kebabs while watching the show, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere.

The evening was filled with smiles, laughter, and plenty of “oohs” and “aahs,” making it a wonderful success and a memorable celebration for all.

Thanks to everyone who came alone to enjoy the experience, in the warmth of indoors, accessible to all.

Residents, patients and colleagues got into the Halloween spirit of things by creating beautiful autumnal displays with painted and carved pumpkins, flowers and wreaths.

Many of our care homes and hospitals hosted fun-filled Halloween events with delicious treats, mocktails, live music entertainment, costume competitions and community celebrations.

It's safe to say that everyone had a spooktacular time. 👻

Our residents and activities team have been working hard to make stunning knitted poppies ahead of this year’s Remembrance Day.

Each have been handmade during our weekly Knit and Natter sessions, have a pin attached, and are ready for you to purchase and wear with pride.

These are just £2 each with all proceeds to The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2025.

👻🎃 Bewitching Tricks and Spooky Treats 👻🎃

Springvale Court Care Home, in Wrekenton, , was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween Adams Family got into full swing.

Colleagues embraced the spirit of Halloween by dressing up as The Addams Family. Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester, Cousin Itt and Lurch all visited Trinity Square in Gateshead town centre to hand out goodie bags for children and adults, and everyone had the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Addams Family.

General Manager, Gemma Rooney, shared: “Our staff love any excuse for fancy dress day! – we’ve all had a brilliant time.”

The team at Springvale Court commented: “It has been such a fun day. It was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get into the Halloween spirit. And seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces’’.

🔍 Thursday Night Murder Club at Caldy Manor 🕵️‍♀️

It was an evening to remember at Caldy Manor Care Home on the as residents, colleagues and friends from Heswall & District Ladies Circle turned detectives, suspects and stars in the home’s very own Thursday Murder Club-themed evening.

Inspired by Richard Osman’s much-loved mystery novels, there were hilarious plot twists and some truly Oscar-worthy performances, the night was packed with laughs and fantastic acting from everyone involved.

A huge thank you to all, the experience was a roaring success.

Safe to say… no one saw the ending coming! 😉

🏅 Silver Success for Hugh Myddelton at Enfield in Bloom 2025 🌸

We’re happy to share that Hugh Myddelton House Care Home in won Silver in the Best Communal Gardens category at the Enfield in Bloom 2025.

The team proudly received their certificate from the Mayor of Enfield, Margaret Greer, at the Chickenshed Theatre – a joyful moment for everyone involved.

A big thank you to all who helped make the gardens so beautiful this year, especially volunteer Pat and Resident Ambassador Rosa.

Jade Shea, General Manager at the home, said: “Our garden is not just a beautiful space it’s a source of comfort, activity and pride for everyone here. This award belongs to our entire community who have worked so hard to make it flourish.”

The Enfield in Bloom competition, held annually, honours the best in gardening and environmental efforts across the borough.

🎉 Rose Water Place Supports Local Fishing Charity 🎉

Rose Water Place Care Home in recently presented Cast A Thought charity with a cheque for £1,260 in support of their Fish and Chat project, which promotes mental health and wellbeing through the therapeutic benefits of angling.

Cast A Thought CIC empowers children, young people and adults through accessible and inclusive fishing activities that encourage mental wellness and connection with nature.

Colleagues and residents welcomed Dave and Helen from Cast A Thought to a small gathering at the home to celebrate and hand over the cheque, awarded on behalf of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

Hadrian Rodriguez, General Manager at Rose Water Place, shared: “We are always keen to show as much support as we can to local charities and Cast A Thought ensures that every cast of the line brings hope, healing and togetherness in the community.”
