After years of envisioning this, we embarked on a journey to find fulfilment, aiming to enhance lives by offering a renewed sense of hearing, providing relief from tinnitus, and clarifying sounds that were once indistinct.

In the clinic, I frequently encountered patients who expressed a singular desire: to hear the voices of their loved ones. This very sentiment inspired the name "Sonant."

"Sonant" signifies voiced speech.
With Sonant Hearing, we focus on voiced speech and hearing.
The bright and clear round yellow circle 🟡 represents our vision.

Overall, our core message was crafted: Sonant Hearing: Where sound meets clarity.

1.) Conversations are harder to follow. With common hearing losses, the ears might not be transmitting the sound efficiently and completely to the brain for processing.

2.) Listening takes more effort: More areas of the brain is needed to process the information relayed from the ears. Using more areas of the brain takes up more cognitive processing.

3.) Mental load increases for hearing:
As more executive function is needed to make sense of conversations. It's difficult to use all mental resources constantly at the same capacity all day. So by evening time something gives and we find that we are just mentally exhausted without realising entirely why. Classic example of this is the TV volume needing to get louder in the evenings than earlier on in the day.

Living with misophonia means everyday sounds can feel overwhelming 🎧

That pen clicking, chewing, loud breathing or  even throat clearing? For someone with misophonia, these "normal" sounds can trigger intense emotional reactions - anxiety, anger, or the urgent need to escape.

With misophonia these sounds trigger a strong response in the listener from the sympathetic system - "fight or flight activation". It's not typically a conscious response by the listener. It's a real neurological condition that affects how the brain processes certain sounds.

If you have misophonia: You're not alone, and your reactions are valid.
If you don't: A little understanding goes a long way. 💛

Cotton bud impactation against the tympanic membrane. Succesfully removed with microsuction using a fine end and very precise and careful handling. On inspection his ear drum appeared dull so we shall be having him back in a week to test his hearing, ear drum movement and middle ear pressure.
He was so relieved to have the impacted foreign debris removed.
