If you’ve been advised to top up with formula for better sleep then you may want to get a second opinion.

I’ve worked with as many formula fed babies as I have breastfed babies.

The cause is rarely hunger and more than likely to do with the method used to settle to sleep.

Before you stop breastfeeding for better sleep, please please please get a second opinion and explore other methods first.

Sadly many mums wean from the breast to find that they still don’t get a good nights sleep!

If you want alternatives to weaning from the breast, join my monthly sleep training masterclass where I will give you the tools to improve sleep whilst still breastfeeding (and even night feeding if you want to!).

Did you try formula top ups?

I’m nervous as I post this because I’ve been victim to mum shaming in the past.

It is not okay to jump down a parents throat when they are suffering with sleep deprivation and ask for help.

It is not okay to shame a parent because you don’t agree with their choices.

It’s not okay.

This is a safe place for parents who want help with sleep and I won’t have it any other way!

If you’re struggling and want to find a supportive community while you improve sleep, sign up to my monthly sleep training masterclass.

Not only will it change your life but it will help you realise that you’re not alone!

Like this and tag your pregnant mates!

I can’t think of anything that would get my oxytocin levels to drop more than an e***a and shave when I get to hospital.

I bet loads of people just did it without even questioning it!

It makes me wonder, what other standard procedures are we just accepting without question…?

My one piece of advice… Question EVERYTHING.

Double tap if you’ve felt the urge to tell others your birth story, I know I certainly have!

Whilst a pregnant person is getting prepared to give birth, sharing negatives about birth may not be helpful.

Instead try to focus on the positives of birth or having children.

Did you hear lots of birth stories when pregnant?

If ever you want to make a new mum feel like a failure, tell her to put her child down ‘drowsy but awake’.

I had read about the magical concept of ‘drowsy but awake’, Google was full of it, the health visitors were raving about it.

So what does it mean?

It’s supposedly a stage between awake and asleep where you put your child down and then they dose off to sleep beautifully.

Why might this not work for you?
🔸 It’s difficult to find the drowsy stage
🔸 if you do find it, when you put your child down they’re awake immediately, or worse they’re really annoyed

So what are your options then?
🔸 place your child down about 10 mins after they fall asleep
🔸 place your child down awake and settle them in the cot

If you want achieve the second option, I’m talking all about settling methods in my monthly 90 minute sleep training masterclass.

You are allowed to work on your child’s sleep without feeling guilt and shame.

Sleep train. Don’t sleep train. I really don’t care. 🤷🏻‍♀️

But can we stop telling parents that they have to put up with sleep deprivation to earn their good parent badge?

I firmly believe that the choices I have made are right for me and my children.

Getting enough sleep has meant that I can be a present and patient parent.

And guess what? It’s okay to do things that are good for you as a parent. Because doing what’s good for you will probably also be good for your baby!

Has sleep deprivation impacted your parenting experience? Leave me a comment below!

So you’ve got your little one sleeping well in their cot, but now you’re trapped in the house for every nap!

Here are my favourite tips for tackling naps on the go!

It’s important to remember that having poor naps so that you can get out for a coffee and catch up with friends is probably a worthwhile compromise.

Use an early bedtime on those days to compensate for the poor nap and allow your little one to recover!
