“I don’t need a consultation, I’ve been having Botox for years”

Incorrect! Whether you’re a complete newbie to aesthetics or you’ve been having treatments for a long time, you must have a consultation with me before treatment.

Here’s why.

1. It’s the law.

I am a Nurse Practitioner & Independent Prescriber. Most medications used in aesthetics is prescription only. To legally create a prescription for my patients I must assess them, undertake a thorough medical history, diagnose, decide on management of the condition & decide whether it is appropriate to prescribe.

As someone who also prescribes for other aesthetic nurses who are not prescribers, it is my duty to ensure these individuals are sufficiently experienced in administering these treatments and managing complications. This is a huge responsibility & one I take seriously.

2. Managing expectations

I provide tweakments and aim for subtle and natural aesthetic enhancements using the aesthetics medical model of care. I can tell during consultation if I am the right clinician for a patient based on what their aims are. E.G any want for alienisation like Russian lips, I am not the right clinician for you! Injectables are not the appropriate treatment for certain problem areas, in which case I will provide alternative treatment plans.

3. To obtain a medical history

I assess my patients holistically and treat my aesthetic procedures as I would with my NHS work. I undertake a comprehensive medical & drug history to ensure you are safe for treatment.

4. Treatment planning

We will base this on individual budget, priorities & goals.

5. Risks and complications.

It is my duty to ensure the patient has informed consent including understanding of the benefits & risks of the medication & treatment and provide follow up.

Finally, it is your time to ask me questions & get an understanding of what is available for YOU!

Recently a patient asked me if I was really a nurse.

I proudly showed my nursing and prescribing qualifications on the NMC register. Transparency builds trust! If your aesthetics provider is reluctant to show you evidence of their medical training I would be highly suspicious. Unfortunately aesthetics is unregulated and I often see people giving themselves unwarranted titles. You can call yourself an advanced aesthetics practitioner after a one day course, which is terrifying.

Check where they are getting their treatments from. If you are not seeing a prescriber it is likely to be unlicensed products. Be careful out there!!!

Chelsea Sharp graduated from City University, London in 2012 with a BSc Honors in Nursing.

Chelsea also holds an MSc-level Independent Prescribing qualification, and an MSc-level Advanced Physical Assessment qualification. This means she is the only clinician you need to see to provide your assessment, diagnosis, prescription and treatments.

She has worked as a senior nurse in the NHS for the last 13 years and is a specialist in Sexual and Reproductive Health. Chelsea’s passion is helping the most vulnerable patients in society and she has set up many projects enabling easier access to services for hard to reach demographics. Her work has been published in the British Medical Journal “Better Way Of Working” and in the Aesthetic Nursing Journal "Case study: providing Botox treatment for a patient with pre-existing conditions"

She trained at UK’s number one aesthetic training provider, which is only for medical professionals and she is an accredited member of the British Association of Cosmetic Nurses (BACN)

Chelsea takes a holistic and ethical approach to aesthetics and only believes aesthetics should be used to achieve a natural look.

She provides a personable, calm and relaxing atmosphere in her discreet clinic locations.
