🩺 World Leprosy Day
Today we raise awareness about leprosy (Hansen’s disease) — a condition that is often misunderstood.
Leprosy is a treatable infectious disease. With timely diagnosis and appropriate antibiotic treatment, the infection can be controlled and further progression prevented. However, delayed diagnosis may lead to permanent nerve damage and long-term disability.
While leprosy is rare in the UK, it still affects communities globally. Stigma and misinformation can prevent people from seeking care early, increasing the risk of complications.
World Leprosy Day highlights the importance of early detection, accurate information, and compassionate, inclusive healthcare.
