Going towards that what we don’t want.
Sometimes this is called ‘leaning in’ and it can start with the simplest of occurrences.:
This morning I meditated on a balcony in the hills of the Italian countryside. Usually, the sounds of the birds, the breeze in the trees, an occasional bark from a dog, a cockerel crowing or the sound of a car.
This morning the constant, intrusive drone of a strimmer was not to be ignored (and I tried) and so I stopped trying. It didn’t go away, it didn’t become less annoying but it was not the only thing I heard.
Why let the thing we do t want be our only focus? As human beings we are hardwired to protect ourselves, notice mistakes (in the hope we do not repeat them) and create a safe environment. So we find it difficult to befriend difficult emotions: but
life doesn’t always go the way we want it too but life is what we have and if the farmer needs to cut his grass who am I too let it bother me….. and when it does bother me all there is to do is acknowledge the emotion, lean into it, and let it go. And then, the noise stopped.
It’s a lesson for all that we encounter.
