The summer holidays are here!☀️

The summer holidays are here! If you need advice about your child’s health or wellbeing during the holidays, visit the Healthier Together app or website.

Summer holidays can bring plenty of opportunities for fun and adventure but can also be a time where minor injuries occur, as well as heat-related illnesses and common infections. The Healthier Together website offers clear, reliable advice created by healthcare professionals to help families make the right decisions about caring for their child if they do become unwell.

Dr Tom Bertram, Local GP and Clinical Director for Primary and Local Care at NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight, said “We want children to enjoy their summer and for parents to feel reassured that there is easy to access help and advice at your fingertips. If your child is feeling unwell or has had an injury, there are a number of services available across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight where you can get help.

“If you’re unsure of where to go or what to do, the Healthier Together website is a great place to start as it helps identify what’s normal and when to seek help. The website offers guidance for common childhood illnesses, injuries and symptoms as well as advice on sun safety, mental health, and emotional wellbeing.

“It can help you decide whether you can self-care at home or if you need help, which service is best for the needs of children aged up to 18.”

Parents and carers are also encouraged to make sure children are up to date with their vaccinations, pack a family first aid kit for day trips and holidays and keep a close eye on children around water.

Download the Healthier Together app or visit the website for more information - you'll find the link in the comments.

We are helping to raise awareness of lung cancer. Lung cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK, and it causes the biggest loss in healthy years of life.

We want more cancers to be diagnosed at an earlier stage, when treatment is more likely to be successful.

The main symptoms of lung cancer are:

❌ A cough that does not go away after 3 weeks
❌ A long-standing cough that gets worse
❌ Chest infections that keep coming back
❌ Coughing up blood
❌ An ache or pain when breathing or coughing
❌ Persistent breathlessness
❌ Persistent tiredness or lack of energy
❌ Loss of appetite or unexplained weight loss

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, please speak to your GP.

9 times out of 10, it will not be cancer, but it is better to know. Finding it early will make it easier to treat.

We will be closed on Thursday, 17th July from 1pm.We will reopen on Friday, 18th July at 8am.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING WEIGHT LOSS INJECTIONS - PLEASE READ. please don’t contact your GP just yet as they’re unable to help currently

From 23 June, people living with obesity will be able to begin accessing tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) for weight loss purposes in primary care settings. This does not mean prescriptions will be provided immediately. It means primary care settings can begin discussions with patients about whether tirzepatide is the right option to improve their health through weight loss.

In Hampshire and the Isle of Wight around 1,000 people currently qualify for the medication based on national eligibility criteria – we are working to set up services quickly however this it will not be available locally until later this year (Autumn) – so please don’t contact your GP just yet as they’re unable to help currently. We will update this webpage when we have more information.

In Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and across the NHS there is different help available depending on the level of support you require to help you in your weight loss journey.
