Welcome to UK Whole Food Plant Based Diet! Four and a half years ago, I watched the documentary 'Forks over Knives', I was instantly converted to being a vegan. It all made sense, I knew why so many people as they aged were getting sick. I have never before seen so many people with cancer, heart disease etc. So many people are on pills. People say it is because people are living longer. Obesity seems to be out of control -why? Why do we have a culture where we were craving junk? It was not because we were living longer but dying longer.... Our western diet is laden with saturated fat and animal products and it is killing us. This is what the documentary showed. I wanted to shout this information from the roof tops to family, friends, colleagues etc. I did not get the response I thought I would get. The first time I tried to inform a group of colleagues, I was treated as if I was mad, off the wall and the food I was eating (whole plants) was food from the planet mars. The diet is about eating real food that can improve you both mentally and physically - people now think processed animal products - quick and easy as normal food and it is everywhere so this diet can be a bit of a challenge especially if you do not cook.
If you have seen the Documentary 'Forks over Knives' you will understand that through a Whole Food Plant Based Diet you can prevent or cure some of the most chronic and debilitating diseases in our culture, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, strokes and even Alzheimer's. In the documentary you meet doctors Dr T Colin Campbell (PhD) who looked at Casein, the main milk protein in calf milk, turning on and off cancer cell production depending on how much milk you consume. You also met Heart Surgeon, Dr Caldwell Esselstyn, who saved many of his patients through changing their diet. Other doctors who have inspired me are Dr John McDougall, Dr Neil Bernard and Dr Michael Greger who spends his life reading and informing the public of the latest nutritional research on his website nutritionalfacts.org
Athletes like Richie Roll, got a warning on his 40th Birthday, after eating a cheese burger then getting chest pains when walking up a flight of stairs, he realised something had to change. For him this was a wake up call. After doing some research, he changed his diet to a whole food plant based diet. He found the first few days difficult but after a week he felt fantastic and needed to release some of this wonderful energy he had. So he started running and without trying he got faster and faster as the days and weeks passed and his weight dropped. He started to question the limits he had put on himself. This idea of who he thought he was and what he was capable of. This led to the World of Ultra Endurance Sports, where he became the fastest American and 6th over all in the contest. He considers his Whole Food Plant Based Diet as his secret weapon. At the age of 40 he weighed 210lbs and at the age of 45 he weighed 160lbs.
