Last week, I had the opportunity to attend@groundswell_agriculture , a remarkable festival focused on regenerative agriculture. For those unfamiliar with Groundswell, it serves as a celebration of farming that encompasses a broad spectrum of activities related to soil and the environment. The event welcomes everyone, from individuals cultivating a single acre of produce to those managing vast expanses of land spanning 10,000 acres.
You might wonder why someone in my position, as a foot trimmer, would participate in such an event. The answer is straightforward: I possess a deep passion for farming and its interconnected aspects, and there is no better venue to expand my knowledge and understanding.
However, I must acknowledge a significant challenge we face. Our island, which has remained the same size for millions of years, is increasingly being covered with concrete and housing to accommodate our rapidly growing population. This expansion poses a pressing issue: every new resident requires sustenance. Therefore, we must enhance our agricultural productivity. While intensive farming systems are necessary to meet this demand, it is equally crucial to learn how to collaborate with nature rather than working against it.
The question remains: how do we accomplish this? Unfortunately, I do not have the answers, as I am merely a foot trimmer.
