Hi everyone! 💛

I’ve had a little ‘re-brand’ I guess you could call it! I thought I’d design a new flyer for our yoga classes and add a picture, which I thought might help anyone who’s new to yoga, put a face to the name and maybe help them feel more comfortable coming along to something they might have not done before if they’ve already seen who the teacher is.

Side note: I used to really hate having my picture taken, critical of myself etc, so in doing this it made me realise how much I’ve grown in my own mindset, and letting go of things I used to have anxiety around. Yoga has been one of the tools, among many others, that has helped completely change my mindset and help my nervous system find safety in what it once didn’t! 💓

And in designing a new flyer I ended up changing the logo as well. I hope you like!

So here’s Yoga with Jodie, 5 years teaching yoga (4 and a 1/2 years of in person classes) with the best community!
My current timetable is still the same.
If you feel called to share the timetable… thank you! 😍

I hope everyone is well, and I hope to practice yoga with you soon 🥰

Hi! 👋🏼
I thought I would reintroduce myself here, as we've had quite a few new people join our yoga community 😌

I’m Jodie! I'm 36. And I have been teaching yoga for 5 years now!

✨ I started practicing yoga when I was 17.

✨ In my early 20’s I lived in Los Angeles for a few years and fell even deeper in love with yoga, attending a class almost daily at my local yoga studio, and it was here I first felt the calling to become a yoga teacher.

✨ My yoga teacher training in 2020 was one of the best experiences. I had to start teaching classes online over Zoom due to the covid lockdowns! Then finally, in June 2021 I began in person classes. We have built an amazing community since then and I am so thankful 🥹

✨ I really like to focus on making yoga available for as many people as possible - showing you can modify yoga to suit your needs/body and it not be some strict routine to follow, and to make a yoga class a mind-body experience to help you release stress, overthinking and tension, and just come back to your true calm self 😌

✨ As well as a yoga teacher I’m a mum to my 7 year old daughter. I began home educating her last year, so this is where a lot of my time and energy goes! My daughter is neurodivergent with quite complex needs so I have the role of a carer too. And as a single parent, life feels very full! I still feel like I'm figuring it all out, and just take it one day at a time 🙏🏼

✨ I’m also mum to my 17 year old cat, Maya, who is from Los Angeles. She’s the sweetest... a beautiful old lady now who sleeps a lot and has gone deaf but loves to cuddle ❤️ I love animals so much!

✨ I have a big passion for natural living and I've been vegan for about 17 years now. I wish I could live even closer to nature, but it's not as easy as we'd like in today's modern world, so I just do the best I can!

✨ I'm really into Nervous System work, which has really changed my life in the past couple of years. I completed a training course in Somatic Trauma Therapy last year, and I hope to do more with this type of work one day. I'd love to work with parents of neurodivergent children in particular.

So that's a little bit about me 🥰 I’m so glad to connect with you all!

Thank you for being here, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for attending any of my yoga classes.

Sending lots of love and good vibes your way 🙌🏼

🎉 About New Year’s resolutions and goals 🎉

The new year can put so much pressure on us to think we have to make resolutions and goals, make drastic changes to some area of our life, and become a different person. Suddenly. Overnight. All while it's freezing outside and Christmas just made the past two weeks all over the place 🫠

Year after year we make our resolutions and hope this time we will actually stick to them! But most New Year's resolutions end up failing pretty quick.

Why? 🤔

Because we can’t just wake up, live the same way we have been, have the same thoughts, and think we can change at a deep level. If we don't do the inner work, our resolutions likely won't stick.

➡️ We have to change our deep rooted beliefs, how we hold our body, and our nervous system patterns. These are what drive our behaviours and choices.

The New Year resolutions we create: to join a gym, start a hobby, eat healthier, not let a certain person trigger you anymore, cut down alcohol or lose weight…. means a huge change to the current wiring and patterns of our brain and nervous system. And our brain and nervous system subconsciously seeks the familiar, to know it’s safe. Unfamiliar can feel unsafe. So it will keep seeking your current habits and patterns rather than new ones. As well as some of these things being our coping mechanisms such as food and alcohol. This is why change is so hard! 🤯

➡️ A lot of the things we desire actually come more naturally when we do the inner work and let go of limiting beliefs, regulate our nervous system as much as we can throughout the day, and hold compassion for ourselves.

So instead of battling your willpower, get curious!

✨ How does your nervous system feel on a regular basis? - Frazzled? Stuck and tired? Angry? Depressed? Can’t switch off?

✨ What are your common thoughts? - I’m not good enough? Life is stressful? People don’t like me? My body doesn’t look good? I won’t be okay without this?

✨ How do you hold your body? - Tense? Frozen? Buzzing? Slouched?

Really begin to notice what state you hold yourself in, throughout your day, day in day out.

Start to soften the tension, and mobilise any frozen energy. Realise all the negative stories about yourself that you’ve built up since childhood, allowing yourself to understand them and why they are actually inaccurate. Bring calming practices into your day that soothe your nervous system and remind you you’re safe.

This is where real change happens, and you start to create the life you want. As you become a vibrational match to that which you are seeking. And create more safety and capacity for new things.

So rather than make goals and new year resolutions, just start noticing yourself more. Slow down. Soften. Just be here without thinking there is something wrong. Slowly unwind the tension and false beliefs.

This is true change and regulation at a deep and lasting level.

And don’t forget, the actual new year begins in springtime! 🌸🌿🌤️
When everything starts coming alive again, more life giving sunshine appears, flowers bloom and seeds sprout! 🙏🏼

✨ THANK YOU TO EVERYONE that has attended a yoga class or many this year, your support means so much and helps keep classes going! ✨

Give yourself a big thank you and show some gratitude and compassion to yourself for all the work you have done! 🙏🏼
It’s not easy to be fully committed to something in the busyness of today’s world. It takes dedication and determination to step on the mat week after week, even when you might not always feel like it.
But I hope you have felt the benefits of yoga this year and it always helps you in some way 🥰

As I end this year, I have taught 1,118 classes since I began teaching nearly 5 years ago 🙀 About 5 months teaching online during covid, and 4 and a half years we have had our in person classes now 😍

I’m taking a little time to recharge over Christmas and New Year, as much as I will miss teaching over the festive period! 🎄💚
I hope you can take some time for yourself too, and still find moments to stretch and do your favourite yoga postures (and maybe some of the ones you hate too 😂).

Thank you again everyone, and have a lovely Christmas time.
I’ll still be contactable by email and messages if you need anything.
Classes can still be booked online for the new year.
And I look forward to being back from Monday 5th January 🙌🏼

With love,
Jodie

How often are our anxieties and stresses things we THINK will happen, but actually DON’T!?

Overthinking is a tool our mind uses to try and keep us safe. So much of our current thoughts are based on our past experiences. So the overthinking and stressing makes sense really, as our body is perceiving there could be a threat or stressful situation again like the past. And wants to try and save us from that this time, by planning ahead in our mind… cue overthinking.

But it can cause so much stress on our physical body to be constantly worrying and hypervigilant to everything. It starts to affect our digestion, our blood pressure, our heart rate, how easily we fall asleep and more, when we are constantly in states of worry and stress.

Finding moments to really feel the present moment and stillness can help calm our mind and body. Using our breath to calm the nervous system, and moving our body to release stuck energy is so important.

We think trying to control our mind and stop the thoughts is what we need. But this will only take us so far. We need to get in our body and FEEL. Then you use your calm body to signal to the mind that all is well, and we are safe. Then your mind can stop feeling so anxious 🙏🏼💓

If we are constantly rushing from one thing to the next, we are never fully present.

Take a moment this week to pause.
Feel your present surroundings.
Notice your breath.
Notice your posture and how you are holding your body.
Relax everything 😌

Peace, calm, change and healing happen when we slow it all down and become present 🤍

✨ Don’t forget my last yoga class before Christmas break is next Monday 22nd December.
And the first class back is Monday 5th January ✨

Lots of love!

Yoga is a place where you can be your true self.

When you fully connect to your breath and your body, and detach from your thoughts, you bring yourself home to your internal world.

We spend so much time outside of ourselves, focused more on what others think of us, how we are perceived, if we did it right… this can dysregulate us so much and detach us from our true essence.

Yoga is one of the ways we can come back to who we really are, away from the external noise, finding a more peaceful state.

Enjoy 🙏🏼

Yoga isn’t something you have to be ‘good’ at to do.

If we come to yoga with a perfectionist mindset or feel it’s not for us because our Downward Facing Dog looked different to someone else’s, we are missing the whole point.

🧘🏼‍♀️Yoga is for you, for your body, for your breath 🧘🏻‍♂️

Yoga teaches us to go within. If we are constantly comparing our postures, our body or our breath length to someone else, then we haven’t truly gone within.

It’s easy to see how we compare and wonder if we are doing things the right way. From a young age we are bombarded with ‘this is how you do it’ from parents, teachers, friends. Then we grow up with peer pressure, telling us how we should look and act. We become an adult and get a job which tells us to do things a certain way. We see celebrity culture influencing us to find ways to be just like them so we’ll feel more worthy.

So now we try a yoga class and our conditioning makes us wonder if we did it right, if we wore the right clothes, if someone thought our lunge was wrong, and if we fit in.

But this is all unattainable and takes us away from our true self.

Turning your attention inwards means you no longer have thoughts of ‘am I good enough’. You just are. You feel your body in each posture and know your own limits. You find your own rhythm of breath. You let the feeling of presence take over your body and let your mind get quiet. You forget anyone else is there.

This is yoga.
This is healing from years of conditioning and thinking we aren’t good enough.

It takes practice, and truly feeling. But it’s worth it.

You are enough, and you are worthy of being here 🥰

Sometimes we just have to surrender.

Because we can’t control everything.

💥Anxiety and overthinking are coping mechanisms we develop to try and keep ourselves feeling safe at a nervous system level💥

By thinking of every little detail, replaying things over and over, and thinking of every scenario that might happen, we are trying to find safety in the unknown. Because life has shown us many times that the world isn’t always safe, at a nervous system level.

So now we worry, overthink, assume people are judging us, and need to be constantly busy because the present moment might not be safe.

There is so much healing in knowing we are always supported by the universe 🌏💓

Find peace in the unknown.
Trust you will always be guided in the best way possible.
Your mental plans don’t compare to the plan of the universe 😌💫

Let go of the control and worries by allowing yourself to feel safety in your body in every moment possible. It takes time, it takes work, but it’s worth it 🙏🏼

✨ Our nervous system needs moments to regulate throughout the day! ✨

Stored stress needs to find a way to calm and release.

Our nervous system controls many functions of the body such as digestion, heart rate and blood pressure 💪🏼

Here are 4 short practices you can do anytime, anywhere, to signal to your nervous system that you are safe and you’re okay to come into the parasympathetic (rest and digest).

1. Butterfly Taps
2. Swaying side to side
3. Head circles
4. Slower deeper breaths

Taking time to regulate your nervous system every day is life changing! 💗

Let me know if you’d like more practices like this, and feel free to share 🥰
