Safer sleep week 9th-15th March 😴🛏️👶

11/03/2026

Overwhelmed by baby sleep products? You’re not alone. With so many options (and conflicting advice) it can be hard to know what’s safest for your baby to sleep in. That’s why we’re supporting Safer Sleep Week and spreading the word that the safest cot is a clear cot.

💤Lie baby on their back at the foot of the cot (feet-to-foot), so they can’t wriggle down under bedding.
💤Keep the cot clear of unnecessary items.
💤Use a firm, flat, waterproof mattress.

Say it louder for the people at the back 📢: sleep deprivation is so much more than ‘just feeling tired’.

The reality of living with sleep deprivation as a new parent can come as a shock. It might seem like everyone else’s babies sleep more than yours or you may worry that you are doing something wrong, or that there is something wrong with your baby.

In fact, by 12 months, about a third of babies will have never slept all night.

If you’re struggling, please know you’re not alone and you’re not doing anything wrong.

The recommended room temperature for where your baby sleeps is 16 – 20°C. A baby sleep bag or a lightweight sheet/blanket should be all you need for your baby to sleep in.

Research shows that babies are safer being cooler than being too hot, as overheating increases the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Don’t be tempted to overwrap your baby. But if your room temperature is slightly colder than 16 – 20°C, consider:

If you use lightweight sheets and/or blankets, add an extra lightweight blanket or layer of clothing to your baby.

If you are using a baby sleeping bag, add an extra layer of clothing. Or, choose a sleeping bag with a higher tog.
