We're extremely pleased to announce that Archers Court Care Home will be taking part in an ongoing research project for Northumbria University, aimed at improving care for people living with advanced dementia π
The project, titled MEAD (Meaningful Engagement in Advanced Dementia), will trial a newly-developed prototype tool at our Sunderland care home, which was the first home in the group to be entirely dedicated to specialist dementia care. Using their application, carers will be able to record and assess short interactions, which can then be reviewed to evaluate signs of engagement with both verbal and non-verbal residents.
Helen Baxendale, Director of Quality at Orchard Care Homes, said: βWeβre thrilled to be part of this important research by Northumbria University. At Orchard, weβre always looking for ways to enhance the quality of life for people living with dementia, particularly in the later stages where communication becomes more complex. This study offers a real opportunity to develop practical tools that can help our teams better understand and support meaningful engagement β something we believe is at the heart of truly person-centred care.β
We'd like to wish Dr Kandianos Emmanouil Sakalidis and the team at Northumbria University the best of luck on this exciting and vital research project!
