๐Ÿ“ฃ National Maternity & Neonatal Investigation โ€“ Share Your Experience

Baroness Amos, Chair of the independent National Maternity and Neonatal Investigation, is calling on women and families across England to share their experiences of maternity and neonatal care.
Listening to lived experiences is at the heart of this investigation.

Your insight โ€” whether positive or negative โ€” will help shape national recommendations to improve maternity and neonatal services for the future.

๐Ÿ“ Two surveys are now open:

One for women and people who have been pregnant
One for fathers, partners, family members and nonโ€‘birthing partners who supported someone through pregnancy

Baroness Amos says she is committed to hearing from a wide range of voices, including those who have faced inequalities in care. Experiences of compassionate, safe care are also welcomed, to help ensure that good practice becomes the norm everywhere.

๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œMy thanks, in advance, to everyone who takes the time to respond, including fathers, partners, family members and nonโ€‘birthing partners.โ€ โ€” Baroness Amos

๐Ÿ—“ The Call for Evidence is open until 17 March 2026

๐ŸŒ Respond here: matneoinv.org.uk/call-for-evidence

Accessible options are available, including:

Easy-read formats
Translations in seven languages

๐Ÿ’œ UK Malnutrition Awareness Week โ€“ 17thโ€“23rd November ๐Ÿ’œ
๐Ÿคฑ๐Ÿฝ Eating well whilst breastfeeding
Breastfeeding uses up extra energy โ€” so eating a varied and balanced diet helps keep both you and your baby healthy.
๐Ÿฅ— Include:

Wholegrains, fruits, and vegetables

Protein-rich foods like beans, eggs, fish, or meat

Calcium-rich foods such as milk, cheese, or dairy alternatives

๐Ÿ’ง Drink plenty of fluids, especially water, to stay hydrated.

๐Ÿ’œ UK Malnutrition Awareness Week โ€“ 17thโ€“23rd November ๐Ÿ’œ
๐Ÿฉธ Low iron (anaemia) in pregnancy

Iron helps your body make red blood cells to carry oxygen around. During pregnancy, your body needs more iron โ€” and sometimes that means you can develop anaemia.

โš ๏ธ Signs of low iron include:

Tiredness or weakness

Dizziness or headaches

Shortness of breath or palpitations

Routine blood tests in pregnancy check your iron levels, and your midwife will support you if you need supplements or diet advice.

๐Ÿ’œ UK Malnutrition Awareness Week โ€“ 17thโ€“23rd November ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿคฐ๐Ÿฝ Morning sickness

Feeling or being sick in pregnancy is very common โ€” especially in the early weeks. Most people feel better by 16โ€“20 weeks, but for some it can last longer.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips to help:

Eat small, frequent meals and avoid strong smells.

Drink plenty of fluids.

Rest when you can.

If youโ€™re struggling to keep fluids down or losing weight, speak to your midwife or GP โ€” thereโ€™s help available.

๐Ÿ’œ UK Malnutrition Awareness Week โ€“ 17thโ€“23rd November ๐Ÿ’œ๐ŸŒธ Vitamin supplements in pregnancy

If thereโ€™s a chance you might get pregnant, or youโ€™re already expecting, itโ€™s important to eat a healthy, balanced diet โ€” and take the right vitamins to support your babyโ€™s development.

โœ… Take 400 micrograms of folic acid every day until youโ€™re 12 weeks pregnant โ€“ this helps prevent problems with your babyโ€™s brain and spine.
โœ… Take 10 micrograms of vitamin D every day between September and March to keep bones, teeth, and muscles healthy.

๐Ÿ’œ๐ŸŒ World Prematurity Day โ€“ 17th November ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’œ

Did you know that in our area, 7.8% of births are premature?
That means babies are born before 37 weeks of pregnancy โ€” and around half of these births happen unexpectedly, with no known risk factors.

Some of these tiny fighters need extra care on a Neonatal Unit (NNU), where specialist teams support them and their families during those first crucial days and weeks.

๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿฝ Ever wondered what life is like on a Neonatal Unit?
