The whole church community in Aston and Ulley has been shocked and saddened by the recent death of Jim Nuttall. Together with his wife Millie, Jim was a stalwart of the church for over 35 years. Millie was a long standing Churchwarden and Jim served faithfully and diligently as Lay Reader throughout his time at Aston until he stepped down a couple of years ago. Jim moved to Sheffield with his work, having previously served as Lay Reader in Pudsey. His ministry was characterised by his good nature and sense of humour (he was a Blackburn Rovers fan after all!). He was an outstanding preacher! He regularly took services when no priest was available, helping out particularly during COVID and our long vacancy at Aston. He took many hundreds of funerals, always leading them with grace and humility. He mentored more than one curate in the art of taking a professional funeral. Jim leaves behind him his beloved wife Millie, two sons and grandchildren. He also leaves a legacy of Godly service and ministry and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Rest in Peace Jim, and thank you.

Recently we had the honour of arranging a beautiful horse-drawn carriage for a loved one’s final journey. A timeless and graceful tribute and always a favourite with our JH Clark team.

Matthew had the honour of leading the way recently for a much-loved lady on her final journey.

The tradition of walking in front of the hearse is known as paging. Chosen by families, it’s a gesture of respect and dignity, to guide the procession and if needed clear the way ahead.

We love the meaning behind traditions like this and the comfort they can bring to families at such an important time.

🌸 A Beautiful Tribute for a Life Well-Ridden 🐎

It was a pleasure to arrange this lovely, fitting floral tribute in the shape of a jockey top, a heartfelt farewell for a much-loved dad and grandad with a passion for horse racing.

Floral tributes like this not only bring warmth to a loved one’s final journey, but they also help reflect their unique personality, passions, and story.

This certainly brought a smile to our faces and hopefully all those present.

As a week of VE celebrations & reflections draws to a close, we wanted to take a moment to remember one of our own – Thomas William Clark.

Thomas was the son of William Clark, our great-great-grandfather and the 5th generation of our family to serve as a funeral director. He left home to fight in the Great War and sadly died in 1918 at the young age of 21.

Though his body was never recovered, we recently visited his memorial in France, where his name is proudly etched on the wall and recorded in the Book of Remembrance. Next to his name are the letters “MM” meaning Military Medal – awarded for acts of bravery in battle on land, a distinction now known as the Military Cross.

While we don’t have a photo of Thomas to share, we wanted to honor him by sharing a photo of the youngest generation of our family, two of whom share his name. None of them would be here without Thomas’s courage and sacrifice.
