A debate on the future of the adoption and special guardianship support fund (ASGSF) is happening in Parliament in two weeks’ time and we need as many MPs to be there as possible.
📣 We need them to hear from kinship carers about the impact the cuts to ASGSF funding are having, and will continue to have, on children in kinship care. 📣
The debate on Thursday 4 September has been tabled by Alison Bennett MP and is the second debate in Parliament since the government made cuts to the therapy funding available per child via the ASGSF, putting some of the most vulnerable children across England at risk of not receiving the therapeutic support they need.
At the previous debate in May this year, many MPs gave passionate speeches directed at the government’s Children’s Minister who was there on the day, sharing the experiences of children in their constituencies who now face much less therapeutic support as a result of the cuts to funding.
This second debate needs to continue to keep the impact of the cuts to the ASGSF on the government’s agenda. We want them to commit to talking to kinship and adoptive families before making any decisions on the future of the ASGSF, but ultimately, we want them to review the cuts to the fund and confirm that funding will be available for therapeutic support for children in kinship care into the future.
Will you ask your MP to attend the debate and speak up for children in kinship care❓

We know emails sent from kinship carers to MPs have an impact – some MPs mentioned them in their speeches at the last debate. We must ensure that kinship families remain part of the conversation, and your MP can do that by representing kinship carers at this debate. 👏
